Abandoned Dog Left Tied to Tree With Note on His Collar Finds Forever Home

Tags:

Imagine abandoning your dog for good, leaving him tied to a tree with just a heartbreaking note and a half-eaten bag of dog food? That’s just what happened to Zeus, a two-year-old German Shepherd-Labrador Retriever mix who was found tied to a tree in the backwoods of Prince George County, Virginia, by the Prince George County Animal Services Center. The letter attached to his collar read, “My name is Zeus. I am a very good dog. My owner just can’t afford me anymore. She tried to find me a home, but nobody would take me.”

How awful! Thankfully, members of the Prince George County Animal Shelter were able to help. After the county’s animal service officers rescued Zeus from the woods, the shelter posted on Facebook asking users if they would be willing to take Zeus in, adding that they’d just found the poor pup on the day he was abandoned.

“Luckily, we believe it was just the day he was found,” the shelter posted on Facebook. “His bag of food set out there with him was not wet and it had rained all day the day before. Zeus was completely failed by his last owner. Can you be Zeus’ forever family?”

Once the post went live, hundreds of people commented on and shared the photo, with many criticizing his previous owner.

“I hope you get a forever home real soon, with an owner that will love and appreciate you for the wonderful dog you are, Zeus,” one Facebook user wrote. “Your last owner that left you tied with the note did not deserve to have you in the first place. Good luck to you, Zeus.”

Some commenters, however, were a bit more sympathetic.

“I actually applaud her for being a good, honest dog owner,” another Facebook user wrote. “All too often we see horrible owners that hurt pets. She wanted what was best for him. She didn’t have bad intentions. I am thankful someone came to his rescue.”

In the end, the community’s overwhelming response led to Zeus’ ultimate rescue. And on February 10, Zeus was adopted by a loving new family! Thank goodness he didn’t have to wait too long to find a new “fairy tale home.”

We’re so happy Zeus found a forever family that’ll give him the love and attention he deserves. Just look at that cute little face!
