Heather Locklear is still one of the most recognizable names in Hollywood decades after her star-making turn in Melrose Place. Though the actress went through a rough patch that kept her from acting the last five years, she’s ready to make her return.

Locklear, who turned 60 last month, is “in a great place” now as she stars in a new Lifetime movie executive produced by Meghan McCain, the late Senator John McCain’s daughter. It’s a welcome place for Locklear, who recently struggled with substance abuse and a few run-ins with the law. The actress has since been sober for two and a half years.

And now that she’s reached this age milestone, she’s happier than ever spending time with her daughter Ava, 24, and her fiancé Chris Heisser. The two first dated in high school before reuniting decades later and getting engaged in April 2020.

“I’ve always loved getting older because it means I’m alive,” Locklear recently told People Magazine. “I’m so grateful. I don’t really give a hoot. I don’t give a hoot about how I look. My parents still love me. My daughter loves me.”

“[Chris], because his birthday is two days before mine, said, ‘Can you believe we’re turning 60?’ And I said, ‘I can’t wait,'” she added. “I feel young. I’m a young 60. It’s all about perspective.”

Who is Heather Locklear engaged to?

The actress first met Heisser when they were both students at Newbury Park High School in Los Angeles. They were high school sweethearts before graduating in 1979 and eventually going their separate ways.

The two reconnected more than four years ago and dated on-and-off as Locklear struggled with substance abuse and went to court-ordered rehab. She stuck to sobriety as their love blossomed, and Heisser proposing around the time she celebrate being one year sober. It’s the happy ending Locklear’s friends wished for the star, as one told People Magazine last year.

“After all the fame, she found her way back to a simpler life with the boy she dated in high school,” said her friend. “She found a silver lining. It’s a wonderful feeling to know you got it right the first time.”

Back in 2017, Locklear marked their reunion with a sweet post on Instagram. “My favorite person on earth. 40 years later,” she wrote next to a selfie of the two.

What is Heather Locklear’s new movie?

Locklear stars in the movie Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story as the real life Kristine. The remarkable woman kept her husband’s memory alive after he unexpectedly died when he was 45, and the movie tells her story of resilience after heartbreak.

Kristine’s story is “about love and loss,” said Locklear. “They’re just simple ideas, and I think maybe during the pandemic we got simplified. It’s about living in the moment. And really it’s all about love.”

Thriving in all aspects of her life, Locklear proves that getting older doesn’t limit anyone from reaching their full potential. She’s doing better than ever at 60!
