Gingerbread houses aren’t just made of cookies anymore! Now, you can build your own edible holiday house using a popular snack food: Cheez-Its! These iconic salty crackers star in a brand-new DIY kit that’s creating quite the buzz online—and it’s not the only unusual option available for shoppers this season. Keep reading to learn more about the new Cheez-It Holiday House now in stores, plus other edible build-it-yourself kits—from savory to sweet—you can snag for the holidays.

What makes the Cheez-It holiday house kit so unique

The Cheez-It brand has popped up in some rather peculiar products over the years, but maybe none as unusual as this! There’s now a DIY holiday house kit ($15.76) made entirely of the cheesy cracker. Yes, the walls and roof are cheese-flavored cookie pieces, and the kit even comes with some traditional Cheez-It crackers to use as shingles.

Though the house itself may be savory, the decorations are not. The kit includes premade icing to use for assembling and securing the candy (in the shape of green balls, red candy canes and gingerbread men) to the Cheez-It house.

News of this seasonal kit dropped over the summer, and it caught everyone by surprise. Now that it’s officially in stock at select retailers, people have been quick to share their thoughts.

I can smell this picture,” someone commented on a Facebook post about the new house. Several shoppers seemed to find the kit unappealing, but many were open to the idea.

Most of the remarks haven’t been about the Cheez-It “cookie” base itself, but the decision made by the company to provide icing and candy decorations with it. The suggestions made were likely a much better match for the crackers!

“I wish it came with squirtable cheese instead of icing…bacon bits, chives, and pretzels to decorate,” shared one critic.

Another approved of the kit’s sweet treats, but he thought the traditional icing should have been swapped out for another appealing option.

I would have used caramel icing since caramel and cheese pairs well. Like Chicago Mix popcorn,” commented an Instagram user on another post.
