Dolly Parton is setting the record straight on her health, telling the world in a newly released social media post, “I ain’t dead yet.” The 79-year-old country music superstar and icon also hinted at some upcoming videos potentially related to her musical and commented on not taking care of herself after her husband Carl Thomas Dean’s death. Below, we break it all down.

Dolly Parton opens up about her illness

It all started in September, when the singer announced she had kidney stones, then postponed her Las Vegas residency.  Then, when her sister posted on social media on October 7, urging people to pray for her, fans got worried. Today, Parton cleared the air on what’s actually happening with her health.

“I wanted to say, I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here. Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease,”Parton said in her social media post. “Those of you that seem to be really concerned, which I appreciate, and I appreciate your prayer, because I’m a person of faith. I can always use prayers for anything and everything, but I want you to know that I’m okay.”

“I’ve got some problems, as I mentioned back when my husband, Carl, was very sick, that was for a long time, and then when he passed, I didn’t take care of myself. So I let a lot of things go that should have been taken care of,” the singer continued. “So anyway, when I got around to it, the doctor said, we need to take care of this. We need to take care of that. Nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so it could be closer to home, closer to Vanderbilt, where I’m kind of having a few treatments here and there, but I wanted you to know that I’m not dying.”

Also in the video, the “Jolene” singer commented on the artificial intelligence (AI) made video, that showed country music legend Reba McEntire sitting at Parton’s bedside holding her hand.

“That AI picture of Reba and me. Oh, lordy. I mean, they had Reba at my deathbed, and we both looked like we need to be buried. But I thought, ‘Oh, my Lord, but if I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my death bed.’ She might come visit me earlier,” Parton joked. “But anyway, there are just a lot of rumors flying around, but I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was okay. So anyhow, that’s what I wanted to say, and I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working, so I love you for caring and keep praying for me.”

Also in the video, Parton shared that she was “doing some commercials for the Grand Ole Opry, which is why I’m dressed kind of like a country western girl.”

The historic Nashville playhouse has been a staple in Parton’s life for 65 years—ever since her performance with uncle Bill Owens in 1959—and we cannot wait to see what the sparkling singer will do there next.
