Healing From Within: How Cathy Goldstein, AP, Turned Personal Adversity Into a New Era of Energy Optimized® Living
The global market for body, mind and energy healing is soaring, estimated at $78.58 billion in 2023 and projected to reach nearly $395 billion by 2030. This expansion isn’t just financial; it reflects a profound shift in consumer preference and a growing recognition of holistic care.
An analysis by the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) confirms a substantial increase in the overall use of complementary health approaches by American adults from 2002 to 2022. This surge is especially notable in the area of pain management. Among participants using any complementary approach, the percentage specifically reporting use for pain management increased significantly, from 42.3% in 2002 to 49.2% in 2022.
As the public increasingly seeks holistic, integrative solutions that go beyond symptom relief, the need for experienced practitioners who blend traditional wisdom with modern insights is paramount. Cathy Goldstein, AP, founder and CEO of Tru Energy Skincare, is one example of this approach in practice, a seasoned expert whose four-decade career in natural medicine was forged in the fire of her own health crisis.
The diagnosis that demanded a new question
For over thirty years, Cathy has practiced across acupuncture, functional medicine and what she describes as energy-based healing, establishing herself as a national leader. Her extensive training, from Japanese Acupuncture to advanced studies in immune repair and detoxification, is matched by her commitment to the field’s integrity, notably serving as Vice Chair of the Professional Ethics and Disciplinary Committee for the NCCAOM.
Yet, the true force behind her work began not in a classroom, but in a doctor’s office.
At the age of twenty-six, Cathy was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. What followed were years of surgeries, hospitalizations and a conventional medical model focused on managing decline. She hit a turning point when she realized she was living in reaction to her illness, rather than in ownership of her life.
This realization prompted a fundamental shift in her approach. Instead of asking, “How do I manage this decline?” she began asking, “How do I heal this completely?”
The discovery of multidimensional healing
Her intensive search led her deep into acupuncture and what she views as energy medicine. For the first time, healing felt multidimensional to her, a complex interplay between emotions, the nervous system, fascia and what she interprets as light signals. She observed that in her experience, real progress came not just from treating the physical body, but from addressing deeper tension patterns and supporting what she believes to be improved cellular communication.
This lived experience was the genesis of her core philosophy:
During her recovery, Cathy became fascinated by what she describes as how cells communicate through microscopic packets of light called biophotons. She observed that in her view, stress, trauma, inflammation and toxins disrupted these subtle pathways. She believes that when the pathways are clear, the body regains its ability to regulate and repair.
This revelation became the foundation of her personally developed Bio Photon Highway Concept and influenced the proprietary techniques she would develop years later to help clients work with their energetic patterns as she understands them.
Connecting her understanding of energy flow with practical, client-focused goals
Bringing the concept of what she interprets as light-based cellular signaling and emotional patterns influencing the nervous system into a wider clinical setting required patience and precision. Cathy stayed committed to the kinds of noticeable shifts that clients have described in their own experiences. Over time, according to Goldstein, some clients have described improvements in areas such as sleep, mobility and overall well-being. She notes that interest from clinicians has gradually increased over time. Slowly, Goldstein says, more clinicians have become curious about her approach as her practice has grown.
One of the clearest, most transformative examples of her approach can be seen in her unique method of working with facial tension. For Cathy, the face is far from merely a cosmetic concern; it is a living map of stress, emotional holding patterns and energetic flow.
How facial work relates to broader well-being
When describing her technique, Cathy emphasizes the importance of flow before structural work:
“I start by creating flow. If the lymphatic system is congested, it’s like a beautiful fountain whose pipes are clogged—no matter how much water you pour in, it won’t sparkle or move freely. The first step is always to clear those pathways, draining away the stagnant fluid and toxins that weigh the tissues down.”
Only after movement is restored does she shift to deeper structures:
“Once the ‘pipes’ are open, I work on lengthening tight muscles and releasing the fascia—similar to loosening a knotted scarf so it drapes naturally again. From there, we restore natural muscle tone, and finish with light, energizing strokes that send fresh vitality through the skin, like turning the fountain back on.”
Goldstein believes this work can influence a person’s overall sense of balance: “Yes, their eyes look brighter, and their features lift—but they also feel lighter, more present and filled with a renewed sense of vitality. When the face is free to move and express, the whole person comes alive.”
A vision for precision energy care
Cathy and her company, Tru Energy Skincare, see the future of integrative medicine in what she calls precision energy care, a model where subtle energetic patterns can be measured and supported long before physical symptoms show up. This shift, in her view, steers the field away from chasing youth and toward supporting what she interprets as genuine vitality at the cellular level.
For practitioners, Cathy’s advice is simple yet profound: Lead with integrity, keep learning, surround yourself with people who elevate your work and explain complex ideas with clarity and sincerity.
To her, radiance is not a surface feature; it is a reflection of internal ease and emotional congruence—a profound embodiment of the healing journey she undertook herself.
