From Navy Commander to Messenger of Hope: Suzanne Giesemann’s Extraordinary Journey of Love, Loss and Awakening
A life built on discipline and service.
For twenty years, Suzanne Giesemann devoted herself to a life of precision and duty, exercising leadership as a U.S. Navy Commander. She commanded sailors, briefed the highest military leaders and was an aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in a world of logic and structure. Yet even that rigorous training could not prepare her for what would soon become her most profound personal challenge.
A tragedy that changed everything

In 2006, tragedy shattered Suzanne’s well-organized life. Susan, her stepdaughter, died suddenly while she was serving as a U.S. Marine. The loss, which also included Susan’s unborn child, shattered everything Suzanne thought she knew and made her face questions that no title or military uniform could answer. The loss left Suzanne asking where you go when you die and whether love really lasts beyond the physical world. Searching for peace and convinced that Susan still existed in some form, Suzanne began meditating daily, a decision that would transform her life forever.
Silence, she says, has brought about a consciousness from which communication emerged, and eventually understanding itself. This was then transformed into a search-turned-opening unto what seemed to her vast, loving, inescapable.
A messenger of hope
Today, Suzanne is known as a spiritual teacher, evidential medium, award-winning documentarian, author and Messenger of Hope, helping thousands find healing through what she calls The Awakened Way®, a path based on her belief that life and love continue beyond death.
What makes her story so remarkable is not just the change itself, but also the bridge she has built between two worlds, the precision of a Navy Commander and the kindness of a medium. She approaches spirituality with the same discipline that guided her military career. “I needed proof,” she often says, “And the evidence came.”
Bridging science, spirit and love
Her teachings resonate with many people because they grew out of both heartache and her own search for meaning. Suzanne doesn’t tell people to just believe; she invites them to consider and experience. She wants to share and demonstrate that the afterlife is not just a theory, but love continuing in a new form. She does this through her best-selling books, her award-winning documentary Wolf’s Message and her growing global community. And Suzanne’s influence keeps growing.
She was named one of Watkins’ 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People, is a recipient of Humanity’s Team Spiritual Leadership Award and honor shared by Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. However, her most significant impact often happens when things are quiet. For example, when a parent who is grieving finds peace after years of pain, or when someone finds hope in knowing that their loved one is still close by.

The Awakened Way: A path to living with love and purpose
At the heart of her work lies The Awakened Way, her philosophy built around three simple but profound principles she teaches:
- Human beings are more than their physical bodies.
- Each person is part of one web connecting the physical and nonphysical worlds.
- Love is the creative and healing force of the universe.
Suzanne teaches that the way to embody these principles is through what she calls “The 3 E’s:” Educate, Experience and Engage.
Educate encourages people to question how they view reality and explore spiritual ideas that, in her view, go beyond the physical world.
Experience promotes direct connection through mindfulness and meditation.
Engage is about living these principles every day by choosing love, compassion and honesty; and by looking within yourself to find higher consciousness.
It’s not just a set of beliefs; it’s a way to live consciously in a world that often feels disconnected.
Awakening Through Stillness – A Global Sync
As Suzanne continued to share her message around the world, her journey evolved in meaningful ways. On December 21, 2025, she hosted Awakening Through Stillness: A Global Meditation Experience, a free, live online event that brought people together across continents in recognition of World Meditation Day. The gathering became more than a virtual meeting; it served as a shared moment of pause, reminding participants that peace and connection remain possible even in a fast-moving world.
For Suzanne, meditation had long been both a personal practice and a collective bridge. After decades of teaching about love and consciousness in the context of loss, she emphasized that silence can often communicate more than words. As she shared during the event, “The best gift we can give ourselves and each other is stillness. When we turn off the noise, we remember who we really are.”
Awakening Through Stillness grew from a simple truth Suzanne frequently highlighted: in a world that rarely slows down, inner calm is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. The experience invited people from all walks of life to sit together virtually, breathe and reflect on what she described as a greater sense of awareness, one rooted in clarity, compassion and connection rather than fear or division.
Scientific research continues to support what many long-standing traditions have observed – that meditation can reduce anxiety, improve emotional balance and strengthen empathy. Suzanne often framed these benefits not as trends, but as practical tools for daily life. Through her teachings on The Awakened Way, she reinforced that meditation was never about withdrawing from the world, but about engaging with it more thoughtfully and deliberately.
The global event included a guided meditation, reflections on unity and encouragement for participants to carry the practice into their everyday routines. As Suzanne noted, even a few minutes of intentional stillness can meaningfully shift how a person moves through their day.
Awakening Through Stillness, along with additional resources, recordings and ongoing updates, continued through her website, suzannegiesemann.com, and her free Awakened Way app on Apple and Android—allowing the experience to extend well beyond a single moment.
Love never dies
Suzanne wants to remind us that grief can be a new beginning, not an end, and that, in her opinion, love knows no bounds of time, space or situation. She talks about a light in her work that can help people get through their deepest sadness.
Suzanne’s community regards her as the personification of the co-existence of strength and softness in a world that can often feel scary and isolating. Her teachings emphasize that spiritual awakening does not transform a person into someone else but into an expanded version of themselves.
Through her books, talks and online teachings on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, she continues to share one clear message with her audience: Love never dies, and neither does hope.
