What to know about the ‘ACOTAR’ Monopoly game

On Monday, June 15, Hasbro Games announced a new, limited-edition version of Monopoly inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses and a special edition featuring premium book-style packaging, making it perfect for any reader’s bookshelf.

“As fans gear up for the next installment in the series this October, Monopoly: A Court of Thorns and Roses Edition offers the perfect way to revisit Prythian during rereads, game nights and book clubs with fellow ACOTAR lovers,” the company said in a press release. “Available now for preorder on Amazon, the game invites players to travel through the seven Courts, claiming locations, transports and powers as they work to protect the Faerie realm from the King of Hybern’s impending war. Along the way, players will encounter iconic elements from the series, including Suriel’s Truths and the Book of Breathings, as they battle to become the last player standing with influence in Prythian. “

Each version of the game costs $40, which is a bit more than a regular Monopoly board. But with all the incredible details included, many fans will find it worth the price.

“With excitement continuing to build for what’s next in the series, we’re thrilled to offer fans a new way to experience the story they love through Monopoly: A Court of Thorns and Roses,” Jen Boswinkel, vice president of Hasbro Games Global Brand Management, told People magazine. “By bringing one of the world’s most iconic board games together with Sarah J. Maas’ unforgettable characters, locations and lore of Prythian, this edition invites fans to immerse themselves more deeply in the story, spark friendly competition and create meaningful memories with fellow readers, friends and family.”

More details on the ‘ACOTAR’ Monopoly game board

Any Monopoly player knows that before the game starts, players must choose the token they want to play with. In standard games, that includes items like a hat, a boat, a car and a thimble, but in the ACOTAR version, these tokens are more on theme. They include bat wings, Feyre’s bow and arrow, the Cauldron, Feyre’s paint brushes, the Truth-Teller knife and the Night Court Mountains. There is an extra Suriel token, but that’s only available in the special-edition box.

Another difference in ACOTAR Monopoly is the money. Instead of cash, this version uses “Marks,” which is the currency used within the novels. You can use the Marks to buy properties—which are different places in the books in this version—as well as hotels and houses, which are called manors and palaces in the ACOTAR set.

Finally, the ACOTAR version features themed Chance and Community Chest cards, which are called Book of Breathings and Suriel’s Truth cards, and which contain fun storylines and details readers are going to love.

“The themed tokens are my favorite, especially the Illyrian Wings token, but the Chance and Community Chest cards are a close second,” Boswinkel said. “The team had such a fun time filling these cards with different plot and character references for fans to enjoy.”
