What we know so far about ‘Threshing Day’
Threshing Day gets its name from the day students get their dragons at Basgiath War College. Yarros officially announced the book in July, after months of teasing from the author about a mysterious unnamed project. The news was met with excitement from fans—especially after they learned that Xaden Riorson, the series’ main male character, was going to be included.
“Welcome to Conscription Day [the day students arrive at Basgiath War College] Cadets! I’m thrilled to share the title and cover of my next book (not book four!) in the Empyrean series: Threshing Day,” Yarros said in her announcement post. “This collection contains thirteen threshing stories about some of your favorite characters and their dragons…And as a Threshing Day gift, Xaden’s story is included in the collection.”
Fans react to ‘Threshing Day’
After the initial announcement, fans went crazy on social media, sharing fan theories and plans to call in sick on the book’s release date so they could stay at home and read all day.
In the following months, the excitement continued to build, especially after Yarros began posting quotes from the book on her social media accounts. She also revealed that some of these quotes were from Ridoc Gamlyn’s dragon, Aotrom; Brennan Sorrengail’s dragon, Marbh; Cath; Dain Aetos’s dragon, Sliseag; Imogen Cardulo’s dragon, Glane; Aaric Graycastle’s dragon, Mòvlíc; Mira Sorrengail’s dragon, Teine; Liam Mairi’s dragon, Deigh; Bodhi Durran’s dragon, Cuir; Sloane Mairi’s dragon, Thoirt; and Xaden’s dragon, Sgaeyl, which helped readers know who they could expect to hear from in the novella.

Will ‘Threshing Day’ impact ‘Fourth Wing 4’?
Since Threshing Day takes place before the events of Fourth Wing Book 4, it’s unlikely that the events of the book will directly impact Violet’s journey. That being said, we might see some reveals from Threshing Day sprinkled into Fourth Wing 4. The novella could also provide insights into some of the characters in Fourth Wing, which in turn will allow readers to understand the side characters and the decisions they make a little better.
