How Alan Jackson met his wife Denise
As the story goes, Alan Jackson met his wife, Denise, while attending Newnan High School in Georgia. After high school, the duo tied the knot in a 1979 ceremony and have been together ever since. Before Jackson had his big break in the music industry, his wife, Denise, played an integral role in his career. Working as a flight attendant, she recalled to the Christian Broadcasting Network a moment on a flight in which she ran into Glen Campbell. Chatting with him a bit and explaining her husband’s talent and drive, he told her she could call his office, and soon enough, Jackson was making the connections that would lead him to where he is today.

It made me realize how important it is to have someone there to walk with you
The couple married young, so there was much to learn about both themselves and being married—and once Alan’s career took off, Denise felt the pressure. She recalled to CBN the initial expectations she had, thinking she would be “living the dream with him,” tagging along on tour and enjoying a new lifestyle. In reality, moving out of the comforts of their quaint home into a big house, welcoming their first child, quitting her job and adjusting to motherhood made this a time of great change for Denise—and a period she struggled with. “The pressures just got to me, and really, I went through a period of depression, and it was a very difficult time,” she recalled. These tough times led the two to split, with Alan walking out the door. However, looking back, Denise recalled that this was the point in her life when she found faith once again, and a few months later, the duo gave it another shot, confronting tough conversations such as the singer’s infidelity, and worked toward a healthier marriage built on trust and compassion.
Alan Jackson’s family: three daughters and a grandchild
Alan and his wife Denise welcomed three daughters over the years, and spending more time with his family is one of the reasons he cites for stepping back from touring.
“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world,” he said in a video from 2024 ahead of his farewell tour. “Have had a wonderful career, and getting into my twilight years, and all my daughters are grown, and I got one grandchild and one on the way. Enjoy spending more time at home, and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days, and I don’t tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. But I think it’s getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”
Denise Jackson’s cancer battle and Alan’s support
In 2010, while she and her husband were celebrating their anniversary in Florida, Denise learned that she had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. What followed was a difficult battle, but her husband stuck by her side through her treatment, and two months later, she was cancer-free.

“As her husband, I felt that my main responsibility, the thing I tried the most to do, was to just reassure and encourage her,” Alan told Coping Magazine. “It made me realize how important it is to have someone there to walk with you through something like this.” Denise continued, “When we would come home from doctor’s appointments and I was confused or worried, Alan was the one who would give me the clarity and encouragement I needed.”
Through both the good times and rough patches, Alan Jackson and his wife Denise have always found their way back to each other—a true testament to their love and devotion for one another.
