Key Takeaways

  • Alexandra Park and Cariba Heine star in 'Everyone Is Doing Great'.
  • Season 2 of 'Everyone Is Doing Great' premieres on Netflix on May 11.
  • Season 1 of the series will also be available on Netflix the same day.

Despite its optimistic title, Everyone Is Doing Great is really about people trying to hold their lives together. The comedy-drama series, now streaming on Netflix, was created by former One Tree Hill stars James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti and follows a group of former teen TV stars struggling to navigate adulthood, relationships and fading fame.

That includes Andrea and Izzy, played by Alexandra Park and Cariba Heine, whose personal lives are often far messier than the show’s title suggests.

“We made the show and we designed these characters in the hopes that people of any walks of life are able to connect to that feeling of starting over,” Park exclusively explained to Woman’s World. “You’re having to look at life and think, ‘Where do we go from here?’”

The independently produced and crowdfunded series first premiered on Hulu in 2021 and now the show has found a new home on Netflix ahead of its second season. While it’s been five  years since the first eight episodes aired, Park and Heine, along with co-stars and creators James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, are ready to jump right back in.

Alexandra Park and Cariba Heine sat down with Woman’s World to chat about Everyone Is Doing Great, including the upcoming Season 2 and how it found a permanent home on Netflix.

If you haven’t had the chance to dive into Everyone Is Doing Great just yet, it’s the perfect time to binge watch both seasons. Seasons 1 and 2 are now available on Netflix to enjoy.

“It’s a late coming-of-age story about four friends in their early 20s,” Park explains. “They had quite a nice amount of success in the television industry. They were on some shows and life was all pretty Hunky-dory and everything was great—excuse the pun. We pick up in Season 1 and these guys are in their early 30s, and their success is a little bit harder to find. They don’t know where it went and they’re just trying to figure out what their lives look like now. They’re faced with the reality that maybe they’re not going to be the TV stars they thought they were going to be.”

While the first season primarily focused on Seth (Stephen Colletti) and Jeremy (James Lafferty), Season 2 expands the spotlight to include Andrea and Izzy in a much bigger way.

“Cariba and myself are in the first season, but it’s more as an accessory to the guys’ storylines,” Park explains. “Then in Season 2, it becomes a four-hander between Seth, Jeremy, Izzy and Andrea.”

About their characters

Park has been a part of the project since the very beginning, as her husband, James Lafferty, is one of the co-creators. The actress, known for her role as Princess Eleanor on The Royals, has always had a creative part on the show and now serves as an executive producer and writer. Park, Lafferty and Colletti worked on creating these characters together, very loosely basing them on themselves.

Heine, known for her role as Rikki Chadwick in H20: Just Add Water, on the other hand, came onto the project as an auditioning actor.

“Coming in as an actor and having Izzy written essentially for me was a dream,” Heine explained of her character. “That’s just like immediately putting on an old glove and just feeling very comfortable. So for me, it all landed in my lap really nicely, and I just got this wonderfully fun, heightened version of myself. There’s definitely some big differences with Izzy and myself—Izzy is definitely who I potentially could have been in a life if I’d chosen differently. In that way, it’s quite cathartic to live out this parallel universe.”

The series is now on Netflix

The independently produced project has had a long journey. The show originally made its festival debut in  2018 but it was still a few years before it was picked up by Hulu. Everyone Is Doing Great also raised much of its budget through crowdfunding, thanks to fans of the actors’ previous hit shows (One Tree Hill, Laguna Beach, The Royals and H2O: Just Add Water).

Finally, in 2026, Netflix picked up the exclusive global rights for the first two seasons of Everyone Is Doing Great through a licensing deal with Sony Pictures Television. Despite the extensive process of finding the show a permanent home, the stars and creators couldn’t be more grateful.

“We always hoped and held on to believing in this thing,” Park shared. “Believing that these stories mattered, and that people would receive them in a way that mattered… It’s still unbelievable. Myself, Cariba, and I speak for James and Steven as well: We still can’t believe that it’s happening because it’s just so amazing. We’re so grateful. Our little show that we have been pushing up a hill, hoping that someone will take notice of, is going to be on Netflix, and we owe all that to Sony and to Netflix. I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet, to be honest.”

And if you’re still deciding whether you should tune into the series—an answer that should be a resounding yes!—Heine has boiled it down to four words that are certain to draw you in: “I would say absurd, chaos and heart.”
