Malcolm isn’t in the middle anymore. In fact, he’s not Malcolm anymore either. Frankie Muniz, who portrayed the genius lead character on Malcolm in the Middle from 2000 until 2006, is celebrating his 40th birthday today and the iconic star’s life looks a little bit different than you might remember.

Catch up with Frankie Muniz, his wife and son to see what they’re up to today and find out whether Muniz will be in the Malcolm in the Middle reboot!

Does Frankie Muniz still act?

In the early 2000s, Muniz was everywhere. Not only was he starring in Malcolm in the Middle, but he was in other hits like the movie Big Fat Liar (2002), Agent Cody Banks (2003) and voiced the animated series The Fairly OddParents (2001-2005).

But when Malcolm in the Middle came to an end, his acting career slowed down as he pursued another interest: racecar driving. He first competed in 2004 in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race and found a passion for it. So when the show ended in 2006, Muniz took it on as a professional career, signing a two-year deal with Jensen Motorsport as well as participating in the 2006 Formula BMW USA Season.

Muniz shared some insight into his racing career after he had to take a little time off for a wrist injury. Now that he’s had the opportunity to watch and listen from the sidelines, he said, “I know the racing is intense because I’m in it, but a lot of the racing, I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s what it looks like when I’m out there? That’s pretty cool.'”

He’s signed with different teams over the years but began stock car racing in 2021. Now, Muniz is a full-time driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Rette Jones Racing. But while he continues with this passion, he is still taking on acting jobs.

What has Frankie Muniz appeared in recently?

Despite Muniz focusing less on acting, he has appeared in some big shows and movies recently. You can catch the actor in episodes of The Rookie (2021) and New Amsterdam (2022), as well as in the movie Renner (2024).

Muniz is also set to appear in Reaper’s Night and Malcolm in the Middle reboot Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, which will be a four-episode miniseries on Disney+ in 2026. The official logline for the upcoming series is: “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

The actor and racecar driver tied the knot with actress Paige Price in 2020. The pair first met at the 28th annual Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational in 2016, where Paige was working for the golf network as a presenter.

Their wedding was a spur-of-the-moment decision as they had eloped. Muniz wrote about what led to their decision, explaining, “[We] said, ‘Screw it, I want to marry you tomorrow’ … My greatest accomplishment was convincing her to spend her life with me and I love her more now than I ever have.”

One year after they tied the knot, Muniz and Price welcomed a child together, son Frankie, who was born on March 22, 2021.

That was the moment that my life changed forever,” Muniz shared of his son’s birth. “I never would have expected the impact seeing my son would have on me. I didn’t know it was possible to love anything as much as I love him.”
