When news first broke of a Dolly Parton musical, we simply couldn’t contain our excitement. Now, as the show’s debut approaches, we’re excited to share that the cast bringing this show to life has finally been announced. What is ‘Dolly: A True Original Musical’ about?

Dolly Parton’s rags-to-riches origin story is nothing short of inspiring, and her brand new musical, in which she serves as producer, details her life and career like never before. “Dolly: A True Original Musical takes us on a journey through the life of this rhinestone in the rough, from her barefoot beginnings in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee to performing in platform heels under the bright lights of Hollywood,” says the official website for the musical. “Featuring all her beloved hits, including ‘I Will Always Love You,’ ‘Jolene,’ ‘Coat of Many Colors,’ and ‘9 to 5,’ and new songs written by Dolly, this joyful and moving new musical will take you inside the literal rags-to-riches story of Dolly Parton and give you new insight into her triumphs, trials, and trailblazing.”

In addition to Dolly serving as producer, she’s also the talent behind all of the music and lyrics. Additionally, the book is by her and Maria S. Schlatter. The musical will be directed by Bartlett Sher. 

Who’s in the cast of this new Dolly Parton musical?

With the show’s start date quickly approaching, fans were excited to learn who would be bringing Dolly’s story to life. Portraying Dolly herself at different stages are Katie Rose Clarke, Carrie St. Louis and Quinn Titcomb. Joining them are John Zdrojeski as Porter Wagoner, who gave Dolly one of her first big breaks and later made up half of their duo, Jacob Fishel as Sandy Gallin, her former manager, Beth Malone as Judy Ogle, Dolly’s best friend, Tabitha Lawing as Little Judy Ogle, and Danny Wolohan as her Uncle Bill.

Bringing to life the ensemble are Peri Barnhill, Klea Blackhurst, Sarah Bockel, Jonathan Butler-Duplessis, Joe Carroll, Donald Corren, Ryan Demoville, Olivia Donalson, Sarah Hunt, Ruchir Khazanchi, James Moye, Cole Ragsdale, Maddie Robert and Alex Ross. Josh Canfield, Todd A. Horman and Kathlynn Rodin are swings, with Tiffany Engen also being a swing/dance captain. Norah Nunes will be an understudy.

The premiere of Dolly: A True Musical is on July 18, 2025, running until August 31 at The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville.
