A look back at Sterlin English and Jayden Utash’s love story

English and Utash have been friends for decades. They grew up in New Mexico near one another and, in fact, he was friends with her brother before he was friends with her. Even so, when they grew up, the two fell in love and got engaged just one day before the Dutton Ranch premiere this May.

“I thought he was just the coolest, and I loved that he was a cowboy, but he didn’t pay much attention to me when we were little,” Utash tells Woman’s World. “Then, when I got to college he asked me out on a date and I was kind of nervous. He’s best friends with my brother. That was the biggest one and our families were so close, but thankfully it went well!”

One of the biggest parts of any wedding day are the rings and the wedding dress. According to Utash, she had a hand in all of it.

“We actually designed the ring together, but I didn’t see it in person until he proposed,” she says. “I had the idea of what it might look like, but seeing it in person was so much better.”

Adds English, “It’s got the J and the S initials inside of the band, which is really fun.”

As for the dress, the newlywed says that her dress is simple and, unlike the ring, English didn’t help with that aspect of the wedding.

“People are absolutely correct when they say that the hardest part about wedding planning is not telling your person what your wedding dress looks like,” Utash says. “I actually did not try on a whole lot of dresses before I picked the dress out. I think I tried on two other dresses before I picked out this one, and I just was, like, ‘Oh, this is the one!’ I just knew. I didn’t have to go to 10 different stores and pick out something super crazy. The dress is very me and very pretty, so I’m excited.”

Inside Sterlin English and Jayden Utash’s wedding

English and Utash got married in Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii on Friday, August 14—just a couple of months after getting engaged. The ceremony and reception were attended by their friends and family and according to them, the party lasted all night.

“My family has vacationed in Hawaii for years, specifically in Princeville on the north side of the island. There’s this little green chapel nestled in a valley surrounded by giant mountains and waterfalls—it’s absolutely magical,” says Utash. “I’ve told my mom for the longest time that it would be so fun to get married in that church. When we were planning the wedding, I suggested Hawaii and he said, ‘Whatever you want.’ So I thought, ‘We only get married once—we have to do it. We’re going to get married in Hawaii.'”

As for English, he’s never been to Hawaii, but was super excited to get married and honeymoon on the island.

“I’m so excited for the reception. We rented out this restaurant called The Terrace Hanalei. It’s upstairs in a shopping center with an open-air view that’s just gorgeous,” English says. “We’re setting up a dance floor and have a DJ coming. The food is spectacular—they’re doing a four-course meal with dessert, so we’re not doing a traditional wedding cake. We’re not really cake people anyway.”

“For the honeymoon it’s nice that we don’t have to travel after the wedding—we can just relax. We’re staying at The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, which is this gorgeous wellness resort. We’re both really into health and wellness, so it’s perfect,” he continues. “They have saunas, cold plunges, and the whole hotel is open-air, including all the restaurants. I’m so excited.”

Sterlin English and Jayden Utash reveal their after wedding plans

After the honeymoon is over, English and Utash said that they plan to go back to New Mexico and hang out with their dog.

“We’re going to come back to New Mexico for a while. I have a place here, so we’ll move back and see what happens,” says English. “We’re not really tied to any particular place, to be honest.”

Adds Utash: “I’m excited to move back. I haven’t lived in New Mexico since before college, so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s my sister’s senior volleyball season, and there are lots of fun family things going on. It’ll be nice to be back here for a while.”

Congratulations to Sterlin English and Jayden Utash!
