Inside Eric Dane’s Unexpected Love Life: From Girlfriend Rumors to Marriage Renewal in the Face of ALS
The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor reconciled with his wife earlier this year
Over the last few months, Eric Dane has been at the center of several conversations. While his candor in sharing the news of his ALS diagnosis has touched many and has had countless supporters rallying behind him, his personal life, specifically, his romantic relationships, have also been brought to light. It was back in 2004 when Eric Dane married Rebecca Gayheart, known for her work in shows like Beverly Hills, 90210, and over the years, the pair of actors built quite a life for themselves. The couple shares two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine, but despite all they’ve been through, back in 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce.
“After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,” Dane told People back in 2018. “We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives.” However, things didn’t end there for the couple. Instead, they took an unexpected turn several years later.
In March of 2025, Gayheart filed to dismiss her divorce, years after first filing, and a month later, Dane came forward with the announcement of his diagnosis. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well,” Gayheart told E! News the day before his diagnosis became public, noting that the duo made great co-parents. “I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season. It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
While this news had people assuming that the couple was getting back together, that wasn’t exactly the case, and on the romantic front, Dane’s love life seems to be a tad bit complicated.
Eric Dane and Janell Shirtcliff enjoy a public outing
Not long after Dane and Gayheart called off their divorce, he appeared at the premiere of his new Amazon Prime series, Countdown, looking cozy with another woman, Janell Shirtcliff, a celebrity photographer. While this pair looked to be enjoying a romantic evening with one another, many were left scratching their heads, knowing that he and his wife just called off their divorce—and it isn’t as though Dane has kept quiet about where he stands with Gayheart since their decision to stay together became public knowledge.
“I call Rebecca. I talk to her every day,” Dane said on a Good Morning America appearance last month. “We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.”
While there’s no saying where he and Rebecca are at as far as their personal relationship, it did seem to many observers that his appearance with Shirtcliff looked rather close—but that’s not where the story ends.
Back in 2024, Dane was linked to Priya Jain, and according to a source via Page Six, his exclusive girlfriend was pretty shocked to see him strutting alongside a new woman—especially when she and Dane had never actually broken up. Though we might not know the intricacies of Dane’s romantic life, we’ll just have to see how things unfold!
