Fort Worth Is the New Hollywood: Inside Taylor Sheridan’s 450K Sq Ft Texas Studio
The ‘Yellowstone’ mastermind also makes the Lone Star State his home
If there’s anyone who’s proven you don’t need the magic of Tinseltown to make an on-screen hit, it’s Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind series like Yellowstone, Landman, 1923 and countless others. As a matter of fact, the 55-year-old television tycoon has illustrated that Texas holds the same charm as Hollywood—and to prove it, he’s backing a 450,000 square-foot film studio right in the Lone Star State. Here, everything we know about the Yellowstone creator’s all-new Fort Worth, Texas studio.
Fort Worth is the new Hollywood—at least according to Taylor Sheridan
Taylor Sheridan grew up in Texas, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that some of his biggest projects would lead him back to the state that he calls home. Another one of his Paramount+ hits, Landman, shows a realistic look at the oil industry and is brought to life expertly by Billy Bob Thornton, Michelle Randolph, Ali Larter, Kayla Wallace and more. This, in addition to 1923, the Yellowstone prequel series, was filmed throughout Fort Worth.

In addition to bringing his stories to life in the great state of Texas, it’s also where he lives with his family. Sheridan’s 6666 Ranch (pronounced “four sixes”) served as the backdrop for several of his shows, played an important part in Yellowstone, and will be the focal point of an upcoming spinoff named after the ranch itself. He additionally owns Bosque Ranch, also located in Texas.
With all that in mind, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the creative genius would want to expand the film scene in his home state. Sheridan’s SGS Studios has teamed up with Hillwood, a developer, and Paramount to bring to life the new two-building studio consisting of six soundstages—but this is only the beginning. Despite already being considered Texas’ largest film studio, the group already has plans for expansion.
“In order for us to have the space to create the worlds that Taylor, Paramount and 101 Studios envision, we need world-class facilities and partners,” said Keri Panichi Flint, head of global production, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios in a statement. “Ross Perot Jr., Mike Berry, the Hillwood team and SGS have delivered on just that. They’ve been incredible partners in helping us bring a state-of-the-art facility to life in Texas to make our shows with the authenticity they deserve, while, equally as important, bringing thousands of jobs to the community.”
Sheridan’s love for Texas runs deep
Sheridan’s latest venture shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, especially considering that he’s never shied away from sharing his love for his home state.

“Being a Texan today and what it means to live in Texas — there’s a responsibility that comes with it, in that you really do represent the entire state,” he told Cowboys & Indians. “Everybody in Texas always represents the state. And so, there’s a sense of class and confidence that I think every Texan seems to embody. And along with that, a respect for others, regardless of whether they agree with you or not. You respect their ability to disagree or agree.
And there’s a kindness in Texas that I find lacking in many other parts of the country. Anywhere you go in Texas, there is a genuine concern for another person’s well-being. I just think it creates a structure of society that is very harmonious. I’ve got a lot of people that fly in to meet with me from California or New York or whatever, and the first thing they say to me is, ‘I can’t believe how friendly everybody is. Everybody’s friendly and everybody’s so happy. I don’t understand it.’ It’s like, well, they’re happy because they live in Texas and they’re friendly because they’re happy.”
We can’t wait to see what else is to come out of Fort Worth!
