‘My Biggest Inspiration’: Kaia Gerber Shares Sweet Truths About Mom Cindy Crawford
Supermodel Cindy Crawford, 59, and daughter Kaia Gerber, 24, gush about each other in rare interviews
Cindy Crawford was the ultimate ’90s supermodel, and while she’s still stunning at 59, in recent years, a new glamazon has emerged to take her crown—none other than her gorgeous daughter Kaia Gerber. Gerber is a dead ringer for her famous mom, and at just 24, she’s already a fashion industry veteran who has appeared on countless magazine covers and walked the runway for just about every designer you can name since her teenage years.
On top of all that, Gerber has made a name for herself as an actress with roles in the teen comedy Bottoms and the Saturday Night Live-themed period piece Saturday Night. She also has a recurring role in the ’60s-set show Palm Royale (which will be back for season 2 later this year) and is set to appear in the upcoming show The Shards and the film Outcome. When Gerber isn’t modeling or acting, she stays busy running her popular celebrity book club, Library Science.
Gerber has become a star in her own right, but she’s always willing to tip her hat to her mom, and the pair have posed in photo shoots together and appeared side-by-side on many a red carpet. Last year, Gerber even paid tribute to her mom’s iconic glamour when she wore a dress inspired by her 1993 Oscars look—much to Crawford’s delight. As she put it in a Vogue interview, “If she wants to wear something that I wore 30 years ago, what bigger compliment is that?”
Clearly, mother and daughter share mutual admiration, and Gerber recently called her mom, “My biggest inspiration and hero.” Read on for a look at some of the sweetest things Kaia and Cindy have said about one another.
Cindy admires Kaia’s confidence
In a mother-daughter conversation for Teen Vogue shortly after Gerber began modeling in 2016, Crawford told her, “You’re so much more confident than I was! . . . You have a sense of what feels right for you. I don’t worry about you staying true to yourself.”

Kaia appreciates Cindy but isn’t afraid to call her out
In 2023, Gerber told People that “I do feel like we’ve established a really strong bond and friendship outside of just a mother-daughter dynamic, which has been so fun for me over the last few years,” but she also admitted, “She is a cool mom and she still embarrasses me constantly. But it’s good! It brings me back down to earth . . . I probably embarrass her constantly as well.”

Kaia couldn’t believe what a big star Cindy was
Gerber revealed that she didn’t know just how famous her mom was until she watched the 2023 docuseries The Super Models, which prominently featured Crawford. As she recalled in a 2024 Wall Street Journal interview, “I was like, ‘I didn’t realize. I knew you were iconic, but . . . ’ I didn’t understand when I was younger. I was starstruck in front of her after.”

Kaia sees Cindy as a trailblazer
Gerber expressed admiration for her mom’s ambition, telling The Wall Street Journal, “What she made of her career, there wasn’t really someone’s footsteps to follow. And I thought it was so cool that she always had that ambition, and she did things where people told her, ‘This will ruin your career. Don’t do this.’ And she trusted her instincts.”

Cindy thinks Kaia has found a good balance
While many children of celebrities struggle to define themselves, Crawford feels that Gerber has stayed down to earth even as she’s become famous, telling People, “She has a very good head on her shoulders and is figuring out how she wants to create that private work-public balance.”

Kaia knows people see her as a ‘nepo baby’ but isn’t bothered by it
As the daughter of a celebrity, Gerber has often been called a “nepo baby,” but she told The Wall Street Journal, “I don’t think it’s a topic that will go away, so I’ve clearly reached a point of acceptance. I personally am very aware of all the wonderful things it has done for me, and I would never, ever say anything negative about it, because that is my truth about it.” She also acknowledged just how helpful her parents have been, and said, “I can actually ask my parents [for] advice on career things, on business things. That’s very rare, to have parents who are in the same industry or career as you, whose advice you actually can trust.”
