Lainey Wilson showed the world that she had more than just musical chops when she showed off her acting skills on Yellowstone, and while we love her for songs like “Heart Like a Truck,” “Watermelon Moonshine” and “Things a Man Oughta Know,” we’re holding out hope that we’ll be seeing her on the screen as often as we hear her on the radio! While music is Wilson’s passion, the songstress actually does have acting roots—sort of! Long before she was a chart-topping artist, Wilson was working as a Hannah Montana impersonator!

A lot of the time, I would open the show as Lainey Wilson, and then I would run behind a tree or whatever it was, and put on my Hannah Montana get-up,” Wilson revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “So, I did this from eighth grade to twelfth grade. I did like, three or four birthday parties a weekend.”

Lainey Wilson + ‘Yellowstone’

Lainey’s foray into acting on Yellowstone was in a way, natural, due to the fact that her character was essentially a version of herself. “He (Taylor Sheridan) called me a couple years later and was like, ‘Hey, I’ve got this idea. I want to create a character specifically for you. We’re going to name her Abby. And you’re going to pretty much just kind of be yourself. Maybe you’ll say and do some things that you wouldn’t normally do, but you’re going to be able to dress how you dress and sing your songs,’” she shared with Vanity Fair, revealing that they had met a few years prior at a horse reining event. “It was such a blessing because it really put a face to a name. Especially during a time when people might have known the song on the radio, but they just didn’t know who sang it or what they looked like. That’s what Yellowstone did for me.”

Lainey Wilson has high hopes for her future on the screen

While Yellowstone was her Hollywood big break, the singer is no one-hit-wonder and has expressed her ambitions for the future on the screen. I’d like to be in a sitcom, but I’d also like to do some voice acting,” the singer told Taste of Country. “If you need a redneck cartoon, I got you, brother,” she joked.

Earlier in the year, it was announced that Wilson would be joining the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, Reminders of Him. Set to hit the screen in 2026, Wilson will join a cast that features Tyriq Withers, Maika Monroe, Rudy Pankow, Bradley Whitford, Lauren Graham and Nicholas Duvernay. “Well this is my first role that’s not a musician, so I’m just excited. It’s giving me an opportunity to step into somebody else’s shoes and just be creative, and these are definitely opportunities I didn’t expect to have, but when I think about folks like Reba and Dolly, I think about the women that just went for it and just kind of did things that didn’t go against who they were, but sounded a little bit scary but just did them anyway, so I’m gonna do it!,” she told Entertainment Tonight of taking on this role. We can’t wait to see her shine on our screens once again!
