Rod Stewart has lived like a rockstar ever since he rose to international fame as one in the 1970s and that includes marrying multiple times. The singer has dated and tied the knot more than once, but we have the scoop on his most public and prominent relationships. From welcoming a child with his high school girlfriend to marrying the love of his life in his 60s, get to know Rod Stewart’s most memorable romances.
Susannah Boffey
One of the singer’s earliest relationships was the one he had with Susannah Boffey during their teenage years. The two began dating in 1961 when Stewart was about 16 while at a nightclub. During their time together, Boffey became pregnant and the two welcomed daughter Sarah in 1963. However, they gave her up for adoption and ended their relationship.
“She was put up for adoption when I was 17 or 18,” he shared. “I was absolutely stone broke … and so she was put up for adoption.”
Boffey, now known as Susannah Hourde, spoke about their time together in an interview, stating, “I don’t blame him for the way he behaved in the Sixties — he was young and foolish, and he had big dreams, like we all did.”
Dee Harrington

In the early 1970s, Stewart embarked on a romance with model Dee Harrington. The two began dating in 1971 and stayed together for four years until 1975. Stewart and Harrington first met during a party aboard a cruise ship, and they had immediate chemistry. At one point in their relationship, the singer even asked for Harrington’s hand in marriage. But by 1975, the two had called it quits when Stewart started to believe Harrington was being unfaithful to him.
Britt Ekland

Not long after his relationship with Harrington ended, Stewart began seeing actress Britt Ekland, best known for her role in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). The two met in Los Angeles in 1975 after being introduced by Dynasty actress Joan Collins, and ended up dating for two years.
After embarking on a passionate relationship and even living together, Stewart and Ekland called it quits in 1977, with Ekland sharing that it was Stewart’s infidelity that caused the strain and eventual collapse of their romance.
Alana Stewart

By 1979, the singer met and married his first wife, Alana Stewart. The couple were together for about five years after tying the knot, and during that time they welcomed two children together, daughter Kimberly in 1979 and son Sean in 1980.
The duo eventually filed for divorce, which was finalized in 1984. Recently, however, Stewart spoke about that marriage, sharing what his father thought of the news.

“When I told my dad I was getting married, he said, ‘You’re far too young,’” Stewart recalls. “He was right. I still had a lot of living, partying, drinking and shagging to do.”
Kelly Emberg

Following his first divorce, Stewart took on a major relationship and it ended up lasting for seven years. He and model Kelly Emberg began their romance in 1983 while Stewart was technically still married to his first wife, but going through a divorce.

A few years in, the couple welcomed daughter Ruby in 1987 and raised her together until their eventual split in 1990, due to Rod’s unfaithfulness. Emberg spoke about their time together in an interview, saying, “It is very hard being in love with someone and knowing that they are wrong for you. I thought about breaking up with Rod for a whole year before I finally made the decision to do it.”
Rachel Hunter

In 1990, Stewart found love once more in a Los Angeles nightclub with model Rachel Hunter. The two had an instant connection, despite their 24-year age gap—Stewart was 45 while Hunter was only 21. It didn’t take long for him to fall hard for the model, and he proposed after only three weeks together.
During their relationship, Stewart and Hunter welcomed two children: daughter Renee in 1992 and son Liam in 1994. However, the couple eventually split in 1999, finalizing their divorce in 2006.

“When I got married a second time to Rachel [at 45], I really thought she was the one—but I got that wrong,” Stewart recalled. “Rachel broke up with me on a Monday evening, and it was heartbreaking.”
Penny Lancaster

Less than one week after his split with Hunter, the singer met his third and current wife, Penny Lancaster. The eventual couple met in 1999 at a party after Lancaster was dared by a friend to ask for Stewart’s autograph.
“That Saturday night, I met Penny at the Dorchester Hotel in London,” Stewart reflected. “The bass player in my band, Carmine, said, ‘Listen, you’ve just come out of a long nine-year marriage. You’re not ready yet.’ I nearly strangled him!”

Lancaster was later asked to be the photographer for Stewart’s band and they began dating not long after. In 2005, Stewart proposed to her on top of the Eiffel Tower, and they tied the knot two years later in 2007. The couple had two children together: sons Alastair in 2005 and Aiden in 2011.
“[Penny] has mended my heart in more ways than one,” he explained. “It’s a perfect relationship.”
