Lea Michele Shares Her Secret to Joy This Season: ‘It’s Like My Own Version of The Summer I Turned Pretty—But With Kids’ (EXCL)
The 'Glee' star spills on summer s’mores, clean eating, 'Chess' on Broadway and raising two kids
Lea Michele is a 38-year-old mother of two, best known for her work as Rachel Berry in Glee and Fanny Price in the hit Broadway musical Funny Girl. However, just because she’s a household name, doesn’t mean that she can’t enjoy everyday summer activities like going to the beach and binge-watching TV. Woman’s World recently caught up with Michele to discover exactly what she’s watching and what other summer plans she has. Read on for more.
Lea Michele’s sweet summer traditions with her kids
A New York City native, Michele told Woman’s World that she, her husband Zandy Reich and their two kids are spending the summer out on Long Island with her parents.
“We’re having a great summer so far. I am so happy to be having this time with my kids,” Michelle said. “We’re enjoying this time, spending a lot of time with my parents on Long Island and by the beach, and just literally doing all of the cheesy things like summer s’mores on the beach, chasing fireflies at night, fishing off the dock and it’s so wholesome. It’s like my own version of The Summer I Turned Pretty, but I’m a mom with two kids.”

Speaking of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Michele said that she cannot wait for Season 3 to be released so she can finally learn what happens to Belly (Lola Tung), Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney).
“I was at the bookstore the other day, and I almost bought the book, just to cheat and find out what happened. But I had to stop myself, because I thought, ‘No, I’m waiting, and I want to watch this season,’” she shared.
Also happening this summer is Michele’s 39th birthday on August 29; however, according to her, she’s “not a really big birthday person.”
“I feel like my birthday is already so much of a celebration because it’s the summer. So, I’m already doing a lot of dinners and celebrations,” she explained. “I don’t dislike my birthday, I just don’t care to make a big deal about it. I would just love for my kids to bring me breakfast in bed and spend the day with them on the beach.”
Her simple self-care routine at 38
At almost 39 years old, Michele still looks radiant and young, something that she credits to something very specific.

“I eat healthy, and I try to shop for as many healthy, organic ingredients as possible. I also give my children what I’m eating. So it’s an easy hack, because then I’m not making seven different meals for everyone,” Michele said. “ It’s one thing that we can all have, and it’s healthy. And for me, when I am putting my kids to bed at night, my day is done for me as well. I try to make sure that everything in my house is done and taken care of throughout the day, so that once they are in bed, I can get to bed early and get a good night’s sleep.”
Her exciting return to Broadway in ‘Chess’
In September of this year, Michele will be returning to Broadway alongside Aaron Tveit and Nicholas Christopher to star in Chess, a musical about America and Russia facing off in the World Chess Championship.
“It’s so fun. It’s awesome and has incredible music, which is what really drew me into the project. But it’s also a very fun storyline which includes a very intriguing love triangle between Aaron, Nicholas and me,” Michele said. “I’m thrilled and so excited to bring this show to Broadway. I think that there’s definitely something for everyone, whether it’s the history that is involved in the story, the awesome music or the very exciting love triangle.”
Along with that, Michele has a very exciting partnership with Lysol coming up, where she will help promote their SOMO (Sick of Missing Out) campaign, which encourages parents to sanitize surfaces, ensuring that their kids don’t get sick and therefore don’t miss school.

“I’ve been a fan of Lysol for as far as I can remember. I always have Lysol wipes in my bag. But right now, I’m so excited to be teaming up with them for their Healthy Schools initiatives, just to teach parents simple ways on how to prevent the spread of germs, gearing up for the school year and making sure that we’re stocking up not only on all of our back to school supplies, but also on things such as the Lysol disinfectant Disinfecting Wipes and Disinfectant Spray,” she said. “Hopefully, we can help prevent the spread of germs in our home so that our children can be present and not miss out on any special things going on throughout the school year.”
