Mark Consuelos Shuts Down Rumors He Wore Eyeliner on ‘All My Children’—Kelly Ripa Reveals the Truth!
Plus the pair share their first impressions of each other on set
Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa are putting eyeliner rumors to rest. On a recent Live With Kelly and Mark episode, the married talk show hosts reminisced about their days on All My Children, where Mark was accused multiple times of wearing eyeliner on set. As it turns out, Consuelos never used eye makeup to enhance his features; he just has naturally dark and long eyelashes. Keep reading to see what Ripa said, plus the couple’s sweet moments while filming.
Did Mark Consuelos wear eyeliner on ‘All My Children’?
Consuelos’ makeup, or lack thereof, has been debated since his time on the hit drama All My Children. Ripa recently shared that the crew had to stop filming because they thought he was wearing makeup when he wasn’t supposed to.
“When Mark was on All My Children, they would routinely stop, call cut, and then say, ‘Take off his eyeliner.’ Then the makeup artist would walk up to Mark and go, ‘He’s not wearing any eyeliner that’s just his eyelashes.'” Ripa said during the segment.
Consuelos’ eyelashes have been discussed previously
This isn’t the first time Consuelos and Ripa have mentioned his eyelashes. In 2021, Consuelos co-hosted a segment with Ripa while still Live With Kelly and Ryan and recalled an incident on set.
“He looks at me, he goes, ‘Hey did they put something on your eye, on the bottom? It’s so dark.’ And I batted my eyelashes, and I said no, Michael, they didn’t,” he shared in a clip from the segment.
The couple has shut down the rumors and credited Consuelos’ natural features. While the guyliner questions continued, Ripa also expressed gratitude that their three children, Michael, Joaquin and Lola, were blessed with Consuelos’ dark lashes.
“I’m glad that our daughter got the eyelashes too because I would be very irritated if only the boys got it because it’s a thing where men get the eyelashes and then we get the eyelash salon down the street,” Ripa joked in the same clip.
Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa met while filming ‘All My Children’
When they met, Ripa had been playing Haley Vaughan since 1990. Consuelos didn’t join the cast until 1995, when he played Mateo Santos. And it didn’t take long for sparks to fly as the couple eloped in 1996.
The couple has also reflected on their meeting and their thoughts during that day. Ripa recalled not liking how she looked. In a 1999 interview with People, she shared, “I looked really gross.” She added that she left to primp and officially returned to meet her now-husband. “I wanted him to see me looking like a normal person!”
Conversely, Consuelos was wowed from the start. The actor said, on the February 12 episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, that he thought Ripa was “hilarious” and “adorable” and that he did notice her “big curl rollers.”
At the time, the two were in different relationships, but Consuelos remembered being caught off guard by Ripa’s beauty when he came over to rehearse lines. “I was like, ‘Wow, she’s got really beautiful eyes.’ Her cheekbones are very specific, her hair is amazing, but her eyes and lips were, I was like, ‘Wow, she’s got great lips,”” he said on the podcast, adding that the outfit Ripa wore then reminded him of a “French vixen.”
