Everyone loves a ’90s it-couple, but what about an it-couple made up of two ’90s stars who reconnected decades later? That’s essentially what went down between beloved child actor Matthew Lawrence of Boy Meets World and singer Rozonda Thomas, known by her stage name Chilli, of the ’90s R&B group TLC. Now, in addition to their sweet real-life connection, the duo has joined forces for their latest project as they both host the Hallmark+ reality series Second Chance Love. Here, read all about their sweet love story and what the two have said about each other over the years.

Matthew Lawrence and Chilli’s sweet love story: How they met

Matthew Lawrence, 45, is known for his work in films like Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and series such as Brotherly Love and Boy Meets World, while Chilli, 54, found fame as a member of the girl group TLC, known for hits like “No Scrubs.”

It was in 2022 when Lawrence and Chilli were first seen together, and despite the fact that they denied any romantic relationship at first, within a few months, they were confirmed to be together.

Since going public, the duo has been open about the love they share, with Lawrence often singing Chilli’s praises. “We’re just incredibly good friends. We get along. We see eye to eye on so many things,” Lawrence told UsWeekly back in August. “I love the way she thinks. I could go on and on.”

Mathew Lawrence was married to Cheryl Burke from 2019 to 2022, and while together, they didn’t have any children. Chilli had one child, Tron, now in his 20s, with producer Dallas Austin, and while Lawrence has opened up about his hopes for expanding his family with his new partner in conversation with Entertainment Tonight, he clarified that getting to watch the way she navigates motherhood already is a wonderful sight. “She’s an amazing person,” Lawrence told E! News. “She’s already a mother; she has an incredible son. I respect so much as to how she’s raised him. She’d be an incredible mother again and I’d be incredibly lucky but that’s way in the future.”

Being that Chilli and Matthew Lawrence found unexpected love, who better to help others find their unexpected second chances than this duo? On the Hallmark+ reality series, the couple serve as co-hosts and take the lead as five couples reconnect with folks they previously shared a relationship with—testing if giving their romance a second chance is worthwhile. Spending time together working on this project has been nothing short of spectacular for the duo and has opened doors for other opportunities together down the line.

“I was like, wow, we can work together,” Chilli told People. “Because you don’t always know if you can do that. And if you can’t, that doesn’t mean that you’re not supposed to be together. Some people just can’t work together or mix that business in, but we seem to be able to do that with ease, actually.”

Matthew Lawrence and Chilli’s love story is proof that the best things in life are worth waiting for. Whether they’re hosting Second Chance Love or simply enjoying their time together, this couple reminds us that it’s never too late to find your forever person. Here’s to second chances, unexpected romance and love that stands the test of time!
