Ree Drummond’s granddaughter is bringing The Pioneer Woman back in time! During a recent visit with 3-month-old baby Sofia, Ree said she felt like she was transported to the late ‘90s. Keep reading for the adorable reason why!

Ree Drummond says Baby Sofia is like Alex all over again

According to Ree, her first grandchild Sofia is a carbon copy of mom Alex Drummond Scott. Along with one of her many adoring photos of baby Sofia shared to Instagram, Ree recently wrote: “It might as well be 1997 because this is 100% Alex Drummond as a baby.”

She then jokingly added: “Which means I’m 28,” along with a laughing emoji.

You can see the super cute closeups of Sofia sticking out her tongue and then sweetly smiling at her grandma “Ree Ree” behind the camera on this The Pioneer Woman blog post.

Ree reflects on Alex’s baby days—and why it’s hitting her now

Seeing her daughter have a baby has undoubtedly made Ree extremely nostalgic, but she’s always been keen to look back on her children’s baby days, and Alex, as her firstborn, has always held a unique place in her heart.

In a 2014 blog post, Ree shared an adorable old photo of little Alex with her blue eyes, rosy cheeks and—yes—a nose that looks identical to Sofia’s.

“This is my first child, my first baby, taken with a point-and-shoot film camera back in 1998…or it might have been 1999,” Ree wrote at the time. “Either way, let’s just call it 15 years ago. While I don’t remember the exact month or year, I do remember the day as if it were yesterday.

“She was running around outside, playing in the sprinkler, little blond curls in a mess on top of her head, and I was just sitting…watching her. That’s what we mothers do when we have our first child: Just sit and watch them and think sappy thoughts like ‘I can’t believe I get to have her’ and ‘I can’t believe she’s mine’ and ‘Look at her perfect little cheeks.’”

Ree made sure to note that she repeated this process with each of her four children after Alex, as well, but after having more than one kid, she had less time to simply sit back and admire the little ones.

“Which is why I think those first baby memories are so profound and unforgettable,” she continued. “Never again do you have that ‘first’ experience…never again do you have the time and focus to sit and reflect on (and obsess over) one baby. Not that the other children aren’t as loved and cherished as the first. They are, they are, they are. It’s just that, by definition, there can never be more than one first child.”

Ree went on to note that the family used to refer to the now 28-year-old new mom as “Baby Alex,” a nickname she said she wanted to bring out of retirement in 2014 when Alex was gearing up to enter high school.

It’s clear that Ree feels just as if not more sentimental about Alex’s baby days now that she’s grown and has a family of her own.
