We are officially halfway through Season 2 of 1923, the Yellowstone prequel, and with each episode, we see our favorite Montana family go through more and more. For Episode 4—“Journey the Rivers of Iron”—in particular, that means brain surgery for one and another discovering she’s a wanted woman. Not to mention that one couple found out they were expecting a baby, despite being in a rather large argument over where they live. To learn more and discover hidden details you might have missed the first time around, keep scrolling!

A large part of 1923 Episode 4 revolved around Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) announcing that he wanted to turn Bozeman into a state-of-the-art ski town—but the place he’s looking to build on just so happens to be Jake Dutton’s (Harrison Ford) land.

Thankfully, Donald has Banner Creighton’s (Jerome Flynn) and his alleged army’s help. However, that might change because, at the end of the episode, we see Banner getting ready to dispose of a body—per Donald’s request—and he doesn’t seem too happy about it.

Could this lead to him switching to Dutton’s side in the hopes of defeating Donald’s dream to create a ski mountain? Only time will tell.

Teonna Rainwater enters her cowgirl era

While living in Texas with her father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), and lover, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), Teonna begins a career in cattle ranching. She seems to like it too, but things take a turn for the worse when she discovers wanted posters Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) and Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) have hung up.

Father Renaud and Marshal Kent were not in Episode 4, but last week, viewers learned that they had made their way to Texas. So, it’s most likely only a matter of time before Teonna meets her former abusers, turned hunters.

Zane Davis is no longer losing his mind

Throughout Season 2, Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) has gone from getting arrested to getting checked into the mental hospital and then arriving back at the Dutton Ranch, where he learned that his inability to move and think was a result of an undiagnosed hematoma in his brain.

Thankfully, the Dutton family doctor—Dr. Steven Miller (Mark Daneri)—has a plan. He performs brain surgery on Zane to remove the blood clot from his brain and Zane is all set to return to what he does best: ranching.

(Warning: The surgery scene is very graphic and features a lot of knives and blood, so if those things make you squeamish, you might want to fast-forward through this part.)

The Dutton family is growing—but at what cost?

In Episode 3, Elizabeth Dutton (Michelle Randolph) announced that she hates living in Montana and would be returning to her home in Boston, Massachusetts. This naturally caused a lot of trouble between her and her husband, Jack (Darren Mann), who told her he couldn’t leave his family.

And now, it turns out he won’t have to because Elizabeth is pregnant and that means they’re staying put. This news comes after she suffered a tragic miscarriage in Season 1 that left a lot of people believing that she might not even be able to have children.

As of publication, it is unclear who their child will be, but viewers will most likely find out in the new Yellowstone prequel 1944 or at the end of Season 2.

Alexandra and Spencer’s journeys begin to mirror each other

Lastly, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) and Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) are getting closer and closer to their highly anticipated Montana reunion.

For Alex, in particular, this means getting on a train at New York City’s Grand Central Station that will take her to Billings. For Spencer, this means getting out of Texas and somehow hitching a ride that will take him back to his family.

In this week’s episode, these two journeys mirror each other as we see both of them running to catch a train and almost getting robbed.

As of now, it is unclear which states Alexandra and Spencer are in, but one thing is for sure—if they don’t reunite soon, we are going to lose! Their banter is just too good.

Season 2 of 1923 is available to stream every Sunday at midnight EST on Paramount+.
