Sally Struthers Reveals She Once Dated Elvis Presley: ‘He Was So Polite and Kind’
Plus, the actress shares what the two lovebirds did following their breakup
Sally Struthers, 77, is finally ready to discuss her dating history. The actress, best known for her work in the hit sitcom All in the Family, revealed on a January 13 episode of the podcast Let’s Talk About That! with Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti that she once dated the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Below, we have her entire statement and what she remembers from her time with Presley.

During the interview, Struthers told Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti that she and Presley dated for “a while” but didn’t specify exactly when that was. However, given that Presley divorced Priscilla Presley in 1973 and Struthers married a psychiatrist named William C. Rader in 1977, it is safe to assume that the two were romantically involved at some point during those four years.
“He was so polite and so kind and soft-hearted that you just couldn’t believe anybody that was that beautiful had never caught on that they were beautiful and gotten obsessed with themselves,” Struthers said of Presley. “He was just all about kindness to everyone, which is pretty great.”

The actress also said she still looks back on that relationship and thinks about how “fun” it was.

While the dates and details surrounding Struthers and Presley’s relationship remain a mystery, what doesn’t is who else the pair dated pre- and post-split.
While with her ex-husband Rader, Struthers welcomed a daughter named Samantha Struthers Rader before divorcing him in 1983. She has never remarried.
Struthers acts to this day, with her most recent project being the Golden Globe-nominated hit show A Man On the Inside, starring Ted Danson and Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
Before he tragically died in 1977 from a heart attack, Presley was engaged to actress and model Ginger Alden, a woman who was 21 years younger than he was.

Over the years, Alden, 68, has been candid about her time with the Presley family and even paid tribute to Lisa-Marie Presley after her tragic death in 2023.
“We didn’t have years together, but it was quality time spent for sure when she visited Elvis and me at Graceland as a young child in 77 and was able to join us on some tours and visit with me at my family home,” Alden wrote. “I will always remember riding in the golf cart with Lisa at her father’s home, something she loved so very much, and taking her to good ‘ole’ McDonald’s for a burger.”
“I remember Lisa coming into Elvis’s bedroom one evening, sitting on his bed, and as she stared at the television, he tapped me silently behind her,” Alden continued. “‘She has the same look in her eyes as me,’ he said. That look is not far away from her father’s now.”
Following Presley’s death, Alden was married to Ronald Leyser from 1991 until he died in 2015. She also released a book entitled Elvis and Ginger: Elvis Presley’s Fiancée and Last Love Finally Tells Her Story in 2014.
