‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Shocked as Puzzle Reveals Proposal: ‘I’m Still in Shock!’
She thought she was solving a puzzle—but the real surprise came after. See the adorable moment!
Game shows are known for big wins, but Wheel of Fortune delivered a different kind of jackpot when contestant Rhea Mathew’s boyfriend proposed live on set after she solved a puzzle!
How a ‘Wheel of Fortune’ proposal took this contestant by surprise
Contestant Rhea Mathew was invited back to the game show under the impression that it was to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary, but that wasn’t exactly true. The whole time, her boyfriend, Robin Kuriakose, had another plan in mind. See the adorable surprise proposal below:
“From the moment I saw a future together with Rhea, I envisioned this proposal,” Robin Kuriakose shared after the moment. “I saw the letters on the board, and knew this is how it had to happen. Truthfully, there were no plans B or C! It took about 3 months to plan it alongside the amazing producers of the show.”
As Mathew continued to participate in the game, she solved a puzzle that read, “Will You Marry Me?” which didn’t phase her much until her boyfriend appeared and got down on one knee and asked the question himself.
“Rhea Susan Mathew, will you marry me?” Kuriakose asked while opening up a velvet box to reveal an engagement ring.
How producers helped plan the sweetest game show proposal
Prior to the proposal, Mathew spoke with Wheel of Fortune’s social correspondent, Maggie Sajak, explaining she brought someone special with her to the taping. Of course, she didn’t know what was about to come. After the show, they spoke again and this time Mathew knew the big secret.
“I’m still in shock,” Mathew shared with Sajak. Her fiancé then shared his joy with Sajak, explaining how special it was.
“Like the rest of America, I saw the shock on her face — with her jaw on the floor and her eyes wide open,” Kuriakose, said. “All I wanted to do at that moment was embrace her to bring her back to reality, and show her the magic she deserves,” he said. “I hope people take away the importance of celebrating love and the little things that make each relationship unique.”
The sentimental reason behind this ‘Wheel of Fortune’ engagement
As for Kuriakose’s reason for proposing on live television? Well, it had more to do with the sentiment of the show than it did with having a massive live audience. As it would turn out, Mathew’s family have been “huge” longtime fans of the show for years.
“They all collectively come down at 7:30 to watch the show together as a family, a tradition started by her grandfather,” Kuriakose explained. “In fact, it helped him learn English. Seeing how much joy it brings them is really special to me. That’s part of why incorporating it into this moment felt so meaningful — it’s a nod to something they love and a way to make the occasion even more personal.”
Mathew and Kuriakose have shared that they plan to tie the knot in October in Long Island, New York. Now that’s what we call a happily ever after!
