Whether it’s his signature look you recognize him for, his extensive music catalog or his wildly impressive career, Willie Nelson has cemented his status as a country music icon over the years. Known for hits like “On the Road Again,” “Seven Spanish Angels,” “Always on My Mind” and countless others, the 92-year-old musician is one-of-a-kind—and with eight children, some even involved in the music industry as well, it’s safe to say that his legacy and influence will continue for decades and decades. Here, read all about Willie Nelson’s eight kids.
Renee Butts
Willie Nelson’s eldest daughter Renee was born in 1953, but it wasn’t until 2012 that the country superstar learned of her existence. In his memoir, Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die: Musings from the Road, the singer detailed the joy he experienced in getting to know Renee, her daughter, and her daughter’s daughter, expanding the singer’s family significantly. Sadly, Renee passed in 2017.
Lana Nelson Fowler

Willie welcomed his second daughter, Lana, back in 1953 with his then-wife Martha. Fowler has welcomed four children of her own, and though she keeps out of the limelight, she did lend a hand in the costume department on 1986’s Red Headed Stranger and 1993’s Willie Nelson: The Big Six-O.
Susie Nelson
Willie’s daughter Susie, now 68, has also maintained a relatively private life, but published the 1987 book Heart Worn Memories: A Daughter’s Personal Biography of Willie Nelson. Additionally, back in 2012, she hosted SiriusXM’s Susie’s Gospel Hour alongside her dad.
Billy Nelson, Jr.
Willie’s son Billy, whom he also had with his wife Martha, was born in 1958 and was also a musician. In the late 80s, Billy endured a series of personal difficulties including the loss of his mother, separation from his wife and addiction, and tragically, in 1991, Willie’s son took his own life. His death took a toll on his family, but his life is remembered by his daughter, Raelyn Nelson, who is also a musician.
Paula Nelson

Willie and Connie Koepke welcomed daughter Paula back in 1969—though it wasn’t without a little bit of drama. When Paula was born, Willie was still married to his second wife, Shirley, who only discovered the birth of Paula when she discovered her mother’s hospital bill. Soon enough, he and Shirley divorced and Nelson went on to marry Paula’s mom, Connie. Today, she’s an accomplished musician just like her dad.
Amy Nelson

Amy Nelson has done it all over the years, from working in film, performing as a musician and advocating for animal rights. Born in 1973 to Willie and Connie, the 51-year-old is part of the musical duo Folk Uke and lends a hand in running Willie’s Kids, the singer’s non-profit that works to protect horses and keep them from being slaughtered.
Lukas Nelson

Willie’s 36-year-old son Lukas has been forging his own path in the music industry, taking an interest in the craft at a young age, but it was alongside his dad that he first got his start, lending his voice on albums over the years and touring alongside him. His band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, has found great success over the years, and the Nelson son even earned himself a Grammy for his work on the 2020 film A Star Is Born!
Micah Nelson

Willie’s youngest son Micah is also a musician, releasing his work under the name “Particle Kid.” He, too, has collaborated with his dad on a few of his tracks, and the singer credits his father as being a major influence both musically and in his everyday life. In addition to music, Micah is a talented artist, showcasing his work on Instagram.
