In the era of the reboot, there are some films and shows we’d rather let rest, and some whose revivals we welcome with open arms—and the upcoming reimagining of the hit 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer is one we simply can’t wait for. Between returning cast members from the original film and famous faces of young Hollywood today, read all about the new and improved version of I Know What You Did Last Summer, set to hit the big screen this July!

What was the original ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ about?

Based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, IKWYDLS followed the story of four friends, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Barry (Ryan Phillippe). One evening, while driving home from the beach, the foursome accidentally hit a pedestrian, dumping his body in the nearby ocean. Vowing never to speak of what happened, their secret soon comes to light when the following summer, Julie receives a letter saying, “I know what you did last summer,” indicating that someone may have witnessed their crime. There begins a bloody journey of secrets, fear and revenge in this 90s classic!

After the original film, sequels followed. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) picked up where the original film left off. In 2006, a new iteration of this film came in the form of a straight-to-video film called I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006). In 2021, the story was reimagined in the form of a series, but this 2025 version set to hit screens soon jumps off from the first film—and we can hardly wait!

What is the plot of the 2025 reboot?

This new 2025 version of the film follows a similar plot to the original: Five friends are involved in a hit-and-run, discarding the evidence and vowing never to speak of it again. However, a mere year later, what they did comes back to haunt them, as they come face to face with someone letting them know that they’re aware of what they did. Keep reading to find out who will be bringing this next chapter of the story to life!

Who is in the cast of the new ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?

Additional cast members include none other than Lola Tung, known for her leading role in The Summer I Turned Pretty, Billy Campbell, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who recently rose to fame after his role in Monster, as well as Austin Nichols and Gabriette.
