All About ‘Chad Powers’: Glen Powell’s All-New Football Series Based on the Eli Manning Sketch!
See this Hollywood hunk shine as a quarterback looking for a second chance!
Between Set It Up (2018), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Anyone But You (2023) and Twisters (2024), it’s safe to say that Glen Powell is a fan-favorite. Whether he’s leaning into an arrogant on-screen persona or romantic leading man, the 36-year-old actor has stolen hearts and shown off his range in the process—and his newest project shows off his comedic side! Chad Powers, the all-new Hulu series, will premiere this fall and has Powell showing off his athleticism as the title character. Here, everything we know about this upcoming series.
What is ‘Chad Powers’ about?
This exciting new comedy series has Powell playing Russ Holliday, a quarterback whose football career gets derailed thanks to some less-than-stellar behavior. To remedy this, Holliday disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling college team. If this story sounds a little familiar, that’s because you may have seen it before. Back in 2022, NFL Films and Omaha Productions teamed up with Eli Manning to bring a hilarious sketch to life, which featured the former New York Giants quarterback putting on a disguise as “Chad Powers.”

In the sketch, which aired on ESPN+, Manning hires a team of makeup artists to get him into character so that he could attend one of Penn State University’s fall walk-on tryouts and understand the full experience. Manning will now serve as executive producer of the Hulu adaptation.
“The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways,” said Eli Manning in a statement as reported by Deadline. “I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I’m in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it’s not uncommon for fans to scream, ‘Hey Chad!’ I’m so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.”
Who else will star in ‘Chad Powers’?
In addition to Glen Powell, Quentin Plair will also be joining the cast, playing the part of Coach Byrd. Also starring as a series regular is Wynn Everett as Tricia. Perry Mattfield will additionally be playing Ricky, with Steve Zahn portraying the character of Jake Hudson and Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny. Powell co-wrote the show’s pilot with Michael Waldron, who, alongside Adam Fasullo, is executive producing on behalf of Anomaly Pictures.
Both Powell and Waldron have a deep love for college football as two people who both attended southern colleges and were inspired to create a show about that particular facet of the sport. “We’re both die-hard college football fans,” Powell and Waldron said in a joint statement per Deadline. “When we saw Eli as Chad Powers, we knew that was the way into a big, fun story about this world. We’re excited to be part of this team, and can’t wait to get Chad in the game. Think fast, run fast.”

‘Chad Powers’ release date: when and where to watch
