‘Survivor’ 50 Is Coming to CBS—and You Won’t Believe Who’s Making Surprise Appearances
The biggest season yet features returning favorites plus surprise celebrity guests!

What makes ‘Survivor’ 50 different from every other season
Survivor 50 is expected to be the biggest installment of the competition show yet. It will take place on the Fijian shores of Monuriki island—which, fun fact, is where Tom Hanks became friends with a volleyball in the hit 2000 film Cast Away—and is expected to feature several celebrity cameos, including Billie Eilish, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson and Zac Brown.
The decision to feature such high-profile celebrities received pushback from fans, who claimed that the celebrities would overshadow the actual show. Host and producer Jeff Probst defended the decision, telling Variety, “I think it’s a legitimate concern when you start adding layers like celebrities, that they can overshadow the game and take it off course. Our job was to make sure that we stayed true to what we’re doing on Survivor, which is exploring this continuous social experiment. And now we’re adding another layer.”
“And when you bring in a celebrity like Zac Brown or MrBeast or Jimmy Fallon, you now add idolatry, and you add different perceptions and reputations. Suddenly, people can get off track a little bit, or they lean in and they want something to do with Jimmy Fallon,” the host continued. “A lot of the players said, ‘I’ve always dreamed of being in a MrBeast video.’ So the twist is designed to see if you can stay on course with the thought process you should — or how is it going to shift your thought process, and will it do you in?”

Aside from the celebrities, the show’s overall plot will remain the same: A group of people will live in the wilderness and compete in challenges to try and win $1 million. Some of the challenges are team challenges, some are individual and some will involve the celebrity guests. Following that round of competition, one contestant gets voted off by their fellow castaways. It’s interesting, fun and filled with friends and enemies.
“When you take people who are being stripped of everything, and then you bring in maybe the most well-known person for unpredictable moments, it took the uncertainty to another level,” Probst teased to Variety. “On Survivor, we’re looking at the long game. We want to introduce you to somebody, let you know who they are, where they’re from, what their vulnerabilities are, and then we add things to the game to exacerbate that uncertainty and force adaptability.”
