While we love the youthful friendships at the forefront of shows like Gilmore Girls, Ginny & Georgia and others of the like, there’s something to be said about a series that celebrates the relationships between women as they evolve into adulthood. Here, we’ve narrowed down a few of our favorite TV shows that revolve around mature female friendships, from the classics to the new ones that have made a splash. Which is your favorite?

Firefly Lane (2021—2023)

There’s something special about seeing the progression of a friendship from childhood to adulthood, and Firefly Lane managed to capture the magic of it effortlessly. Led by Grey’s Anatomy starlet Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, the two women star as a duo who had met as neighbors on their street, Firefly Lane, when they were just kids. Chronicling their friendship as they grow into adulthood, this series is a heartwarming tale of unbreakable bonds. Watch it on Netflix

And Just Like That… (2021—2025)

Who didn’t love feeling like the fifth member of the Sex and the City crew? For years, Samantha, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte brought us along as they navigated the ups and downs of love and life in New York City during their thirties. Now, as they’ve matured, And Just Like That… brings us along in a new era of their lives—and one that is equally as interesting. Grace and Frankie (2015—2022)

Two longtime rivals are forced to put their differences aside when they learn that their husbands have fallen for one another. Now, Grace and Frankie will come to see that after all this time, perhaps they were destined for friendship all along. Starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, this series was a Netflix fan favorite. Hot in Cleveland (2010—2015)

Three friends embarking on a trip to Paris have a change of plans when their aircraft makes an emergency landing in none other than Cleveland, Ohio. When this new city soon reveals that the beauty standards of their hometown in California no longer apply, they decide to stick it out for a bit. Starring Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves, this hilarious series is an ode to the gal pals you love. Watch it on Pluto TV and Paramount+.  

The Golden Girls (1985—1992)

Few shows celebrate mature friendships quite like The Golden Girls did, and it managed to do so in a way that was heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny all at the same time. One of the most revered shows to ever hit the airwaves followed four women, Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia, who all live together in Miami, Florida. The friendship between these divorced and widowed women made us laugh for several seasons, and to this day, it remains a classic, reaching new audiences with each passing year. Watch it on Hulu.
