The day had already not been a good one. It had been raining for days, and now the temperature had dropped. My cell phone rang. I saw my grandson Andrew’s picture pop up on the screen.

“Hi, Andrew.”

“Andrew’s fallen off the roof.”

“Andrew, it’s not nice to scare your grandma like this.”

“Ma’am, this isn’t Andrew.”

“Who is this?”

“I’m Jason. I work with Andrew.”

Just then, I heard a scream of pain in the background. It was unmistakably Andrew. I asked Jason, “Oh, my gosh, that’s Andrew. How bad is he hurt?”

“Bad. One leg is about six inches shorter than the other. The paramedics are here. He told me to call you.”

“I’m coming to the hospital.”

I grabbed my purse and left.

Arriving at the trauma center, I checked in and sat anxiously in the waiting room. No one allowed me into the trauma room or even gave me any idea about Andrew’s condition. I didn’t know that he was having the first of three orthopedic procedures to save his right leg.

Finally, I was paged to enter. I met a nurse in the hallway pushing my grandson’s bed to a room.

In addition to the multiple fractures in his right leg, Andrew’s left leg was broken with multiple ligament injuries. He would need more leg surgery after the broken vertebrae in his back had also been resolved.

As he awakened, he grimaced in pain.

“God sure loves you,”

I remarked. “You fell three stories. You must have a guardian angel.”

Andrew was silent for several seconds. “Grandma, when I was falling, it felt like someone was holding me in their arms.”

He paused, then said, “The paramedic told me that I missed hitting the wooden deck and the cement patio by inches either way. If I had hit them, I wouldn’t be here.”

I blinked back tears.

He swallowed several times, “Grandma, I do have a guardian angel. She was the one who was holding me.”

“Nancy’s story is a profound example of divine protection,” says Sunny Dawn Johnson, a global authority on the angelic realm, with a portfolio of 22 books, including popular titles such as Invoking the Archangels, The Love Never Ends, and 365 Days of Angel Prayers. “Andrew’s experience of feeling held during his fall is a remarkable reminder that guardian angels are constantly watching over us, stepping in during life-threatening moments. Missing the deck and patio by inches was no coincidence—it was a clear sign of his angel’s intervention. This story reminds us that we are never alone, and in times of danger, our angels are there, providing unseen guidance and protection. Moments like these offer comfort, showing us that our angels are near.”
