The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one of the year’s most anticipated movies, and with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reprising their roles from the original movie, it’s sure to be a worthy successor to the 2006 blockbuster. After years of appearing in indie movies and working as a character actor, Tucci had his breakthrough role playing Streep’s stylish fashion magazine confidant in the comedy, and the film has a surprising connection to his personal life, as he’s been married to Felicity Blunt, the older sister of his costar Emily Blunt, since 2012.

Tucci’s marriage to Blunt came after the heartbreak of losing his first wife, Kate Spath, in 2009. Read on to learn about the actor’s two marriages and see the surprising story of how he and Blunt met and found a second chance at love.

Stanley Tucci’s first marriage: A high-profile affair, reconciliation and a devastating loss

Stanley Tucci married his first wife, Kate Spath, in 1995. She stayed out of the Hollywood spotlight and had a career as a social worker. The couple had a daughter, Camilla, and twins, Nicolo and Isabel, and they also raised Spath’s two children from her previous marriage.

In 2002, Tucci made headlines when he had an affair with Sopranos actress Edie Falco, his costar in the Broadway play Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. After the affair ended, he and his wife reconciled, and in 2004, Falco told The New York Times, “We were together and then we broke up, because there’s no way for that to be a good thing. He’s a lovely man, and he’s back with his wife and kids, and I’m thrilled.”

Sadly, Spath was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years later, and she succumbed to the disease at just 47 in 2009. Tucci has been open about his experience with navigating this loss, and in a 2021 interview with CBS News, he admitted, “You never stop grieving. You never stop grieving. And it’s still, it’s still hard after 11 years, it’s still hard, and it always will be hard. But you can’t let it—and she would never want any of us to sort of, to wallow in that grief and let it take over our lives. She would never want that. She wasn’t like that.”

How Stanley Tucci found love after heartbreak with Felicity Blunt

Stanley Tucci met Felicity Blunt at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada. In a fateful moment, his wife met his future wife, and he recalled, “Felicity—Emily’s sister, my wife—she and Kate talked at the premiere that night and I have a photo of them together, which is so odd. And then many years later, I ended up marrying Felicity.”

Tucci stayed friends with Emily Blunt after The Devil Wears Prada. In 2010, a year after his wife’s death, he and Felicity reconnected at Emily’s wedding to The Office star John Krasinski and they soon became an item. While Felicity is the sister of an A-list actress, she’s not in the entertainment industry herself and instead has a successful career as a literary agent.

Tucci and Blunt married in 2012. The couple has a son, Matteo, and a daughter, Emilia. Tucci was initially hesitant to pursue a relationship with Blunt due to their age difference, but said, “I was afraid to get into a relationship and I kept trying to break it off. I’m 21 years older than she is and I didn’t want to feel old for the rest of my life! But I knew that this was an incredibly special person.”

Tucci has also spoken adoringly of how Blunt helped support him through his grief, saying, “Felicity has been so incredible taking on a widower and three children whose mother died. That’s a huge thing, at a very young age, too. If anybody made things better for all of us, it’s her. She’s the one.” She also helped Tucci through illness, as he overcame oral cancer and said, “Felicity’s undying attention, affection and encouragement got me through it.”

In addition to supporting each other in their personal lives, Tucci and Blunt have collaborated professionally. Blunt served as the literary agent for Tucci’s books Taste: My Life Through Food and What I Ate in One Year, and in 2014, the couple coauthored the cookbook The Tucci Table: Cooking With Family and Friends. Blunt has also appeared in three episodes of Tucci’s Emmy-winning travel show Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.

During the 2020 lockdown, Blunt filmed videos of Tucci making Negronis and other classic cocktails in their kitchen, capturing his charisma and culinary expertise and leading him to be anointed “the internet’s boyfriend.” The videos went viral, bringing joy to millions during a difficult time.

At 65, Stanley Tucci has found great contentment in his personal life, and it’s clear that Felicity Blunt is more than just the sister of his Devil Wears Prada costar—she’s a devoted mother and wife, a caretaker and a creative collaborator.
