Chocolate Chip Oat Cookie Gift Jars

Our layered gift jars are the perfect present for anyone with a sweet tooth — or make a batch to treat yourself.

  • 2 (24 oz.) jars with lids
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup sugar in the raw
  • 1½ cups dark chocolate chips
  • Cloth and twine (optional)
  • ¾ cup butter, at room temp.
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract


  1. Dividing evenly among jars, tamping down each addition, layer half of flour, oats, remaining flour, sugar and chips. Add lids. If desired, decorate with cloth and twine.
  2. To prepare cookies (include these directions with each gift jar): On medium speed, beat 6 Tbs. butter until light and fluffy, about 2 min. On low, beat in jar ingredients, 1 egg and ½ tsp. vanilla extract until dough forms; roll into log.
  3. Divide log into 18 portions, about 2 Tbs. each. Shape into balls; flatten to 2″ rounds. Transfer to parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing 1″ apart. Bake at 375°F about 15 min. Let cool 5 min. Transfer from baking sheet to rack; let cool completely.
