Meatballs cooked in a savory sauce is the kind of dish I crave on chilly nights. And while I love a traditional version like meatballs in spaghetti sauce, sometimes it’s fun to mix it up a bit and create a different, but just as flavorful, sauce. That’s how we came up with this turmeric chicken meatball bake recipe. Turmeric is a golden-orange spice that adds deep flavor to foods. Studies show that it has many health benefits, such as protecting against the flu and helping to reduce inflammation. In this recipe, we add turmeric plus cumin, another healthy spice, to ground chicken, along with garlic and basil . We quickly brown the meatballs in a skillet, then nestle them into a creamy sauce and bake. They are so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chicken
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1/4 cup chopped basil
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream

In bowl, gently mix first 6 ingredients with 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper until combined. Shape into 12 balls.

Heat ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs; cook, turning, until browned, 5–6 min. Add stock and cream; cover. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 min.
