Breastcancer.org states that roughly one out of every eight US women (that’s 12 percent, for those of you doing the math) will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetimes, with 268,600 new cases expected to have been diagnosed in 2019 alone.
Needless to say, breast cancer awareness is more important than ever. While there are plenty of ways for you to get involved, from making donations to a top breast cancer charity to support breast cancer research to hitting the streets to fundraise, one of the easiest is simply to purchase a breast cancer awareness product that will not only let the world know you’re #TeamPink, but donate a portion of its proceeds to a good cause.
Essentially, breast cancer awareness month, which begins on October 1 and ends on October 31, is exactly what it sounds like — a month dedicated to raising cognizance of the disease each year that encourages women to get screened to detect symptoms early, educate the public about its causes and symptoms, and support survivors.
In honor of this annual event, which was founded in 1985, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation has partnered up with a slew of your favorite retailers, including Lilly Pulitzer, Rothy’s, Kendra Scott and more, to create their own pink products to help spread the word about the dangers of this life-threatening disease. Available to shoppers on October 1, this colorful tote from Lilly Pulitzer features a special floral print that the brand has dubbed “Pinking Positive” that was inspired by “sisterhood, friendship, and the support that women give to one another.” Luxe details in the form of gold hardware and leather handles abound and a cotton canvas exterior makes it durable for everyday wear. Better yet, a $22,000 donation from the combined sales of all Pinking Positive items will go to support breast cancer research.
This gorgeous 100 percent cashmere wrap, which is made from a seven-gauge knit, is so gorgeous, we’d buy it even if it wasn’t a charitable purchase. It come is three neutral shades of nude, chalk, and of course, antique pink, and features embroidered “Love” text near the hem. Better yet, $50 of every purchase made will go to benefit the breast BCRF.
If ever you needed proof that charity is fashionable, look no further than this Coach Perry watch. Designed in conjunction with breast cancer awareness month, this timepiece features a genuine pink leather strap, a glitter-accented stainless steel case, and a breast cancer symbol. 10 percent of sales will be donated to the BCRF —a figure which will be upped to 20 percent when purchased between the dates of October 1 to December 31.
Bring awareness to your fellow gym-goers with these breast cancer logo leggings from Ideology. Featuring a working pocket at the waistband and a cotton spandex blend that will allow you to move with ease, they’ll quickly becoming your new favorite workout gear — particularly since you know 20 percent of your purchase through October 31 will be going toward a good cause.
Danskin teamed up with the Breast Cancer Research Fund to create this pretty-yet-functional pink anorak, which will be up for grabs as of October 1. While we’ve got a sneaking suspicion it will be flying off the shelves, the brand has committed to donating $10,000 to the cause each year, regardless of sales.
