Take this Italian Beef Burgers recipe. We give the all-American classic an easy upgrade that makes it really shine.

Beef patties are pretty amazing simply seasoned with salt and pepper. But we have a secret ingredient that takes them to next level deliciousness — Worcestershire sauce. This umami-rich condiment is salty, sweet and tangy all at the same time so you can skip additional seasonings. Then we whip up two easy toppings. One combines sautéed red peppers and bottled Italian dressing. While the other is a mix of juicy cherry tomatoes, onion and garlic. Ingredients

  • 2 Tbs. oil
  • 4 cups sliced peppers
  • 1 Tbs. Italian vinaigrette
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 12 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns, split

In nonstick skillet, heat 1 Tbs. oil over medium heat. Add sliced peppers; cook, stirring, until tender, 5 min.; transfer to bowl. Add dressing and salt; reserve. In same skillet, heat remaining oil over medium. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring, until tender, 10 min. Stir in tomatoes and diced pepper; reserve.

Prepare grill for medium-high direct-heat cooking. Mix beef and Worcestershire; shape into 6 patties. Grill, flipping, until desired doneness. Place burgers in buns; add pepper or tomato-onion topping.
