How Cooking Together Is Helping Families Slow Down and Connect Again

The kitchen serves multiple functions for families, serving as their primary meal-preparation area. It is a space for cooking that families use to share their traditions by passing down recipes and telling stories. Parents and grandparents currently use that space to find ways to interact with their children without using screens.

Pampered Chef is growing by bringing families and communities together, and a big part of that is its kitchen products designed for children and a Kids Club program, which enables kids to cook in a protected environment. The initiative centers on hands-on experiences that introduce foundational skills that people from different age groups can share together.

A kitchen designed for smaller hands

One of the barriers to involving children in cooking is safety. Standard knives, slicers and heavy appliances can make parents hesitant to involve them in the kitchen. Pampered Chef’s approach has been to design tools that allow children to assist without relying heavily on traditional knife skills.

The Cup Slicer, for example, can cut strawberries, bananas, mushrooms and hard-boiled eggs with a single press. Its compact design helps reduce direct contact with the blades while allowing children to participate more independently when preparing snacks or toppings. The Electric Twist & Chop uses an enclosed blade system and push-down operation to chop soft foods, such as herbs or fruits, under supervision, reducing the need for open-knife work.

The Mix ‘N Chop enables older kids who assist with dinner to use its heat-resistant handle to break up ground meat and mash potatoes directly in the pan. The Rapid-Prep Mandoline includes a food guard and thickness settings, which produce consistent slices while its design protects fingers during supervised operation.

These tools are intended to encourage participation without overwhelming young cooks, helping children build familiarity with food preparation in manageable steps.

A new way to roll and assemble

The Easy Roll Maker introduces another entry point for family cooking. The device creates evenly shaped rolls for sushi-style recipes, vegetable wraps, cooked proteins and even dessert variations sometimes referred to as “frushi.”

The process of layering and rolling requires only a small number of knife cuts, which makes it suitable for team assembly work. Children can help add fillings while they roll ingredients together with adult helpers who will slice the finished products. The process teaches people how to work together and follow step-by-step instructions. It is also a great way to get them to learn about and try new foods.

The Garnish Grabber is a new tool that uses its rounded claw system to pick up olives, pickles, cherries and other jarred foods. The squeeze-and-release feature keeps hands clean and reduces the need to reach into jars or use forks, offering a simple way for children to participate in topping and plating.

Inside Kids Club

Beyond individual tools, Pampered Chef’s Kids Club offers guided cooking experiences built specifically for young participants. The program provides age-appropriate recipes, seasonal projects, and curated tool bundles to help families cook together in a structured format.

Lessons emphasize basic kitchen safety, measuring, following step-by-step instructions and foundational food prep techniques. By breaking tasks into manageable components, the experience helps children understand not only how to complete a recipe but why each step matters.

Families can test standalone kits or participate in recurring experiences. The format is designed to be flexible, making it accessible for parents juggling weekday schedules as well as grandparents looking for meaningful weekend activities.

Building skills and memories

Research and anecdotal evidence alike suggest that involving children in meal preparation can support fine motor development, confidence and a willingness to try new foods. Just as importantly, it creates space for conversation and collaboration.

In many households, weeknights are structured around efficiency. By reframing meal prep as a shared activity rather than a solitary task, families can turn necessary routines into opportunities for connection.

Pampered Chef’s expanded family offerings reflect that shift. By pairing scaled-down tools with guided instruction, the company is positioning the kitchen as a place where children can learn practical skills while strengthening relationships.

Parents and grandparents who want to create enduring traditions should begin their search for solutions by using a recipe that they will divide into separate tasks that permit them to use the kitchen as both an educational space and a social meeting point.
