For Britnee Kellogg, a divorced mom of three, getting cast on the new Taylor Sheridan show The Road was a dream come true. The plot follows a group of 12 musicians who go on the road alongside Keith Urban in the hopes of winning a record deal, a spot on the Stagecoach lineup and $250,000. It’s judged by audience members, Urban and Blake Shelton, and after each live show one singer will go home, making for an entertaining and jaw-dropping ride. Woman’s World recently sat down to learn more about the show and Kellogg’s journey on it. Read on for more.

Britnee Kellogg on getting cast in Taylor Sheridan’s ‘The Road’

For Kellogg, being on The Road is “So exciting,” especially since her three kids finally get to watch their mom perform on TV.

“I’m in my 40s, I’m a mom of three and I really wanted to show that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams,” the singer said. “My kids, they’re so excited. They are the most supportive. I’m gone a lot and that’s challenging sometimes, but they’re incredibly supportive and just really fun.”

The Road is executive produced by Sheridan, who is best known for creating the Yellowstone universe. And while Kellogg does love that show, she said that Landman and Lioness are her two favorites.

“I just know Season 3 of Lioness is gonna be awesome,” she joked.

Her mentorship from Keith Urban and Blake Shelton

Also featured in the show are Urban, Shelton and Gretchen Wilson, all of whom, Kellogg says, she had a lot of access and time with during filming.

“It’s so different from the typical shows that you’re used to seeing,” she said. “We actually spent a lot of time with them and they really mentored us and helped us hone in on the experience in our craft. There’d be times when I’d be working with Keith and it would be like he’s literally doing my sound check, which is the craziest thing ever. So it’s definitely a lot of pinch me moments, for sure.”

The ’90s country icons who inspire her sound

Like so many other musicians, Kellogg has her favorite singers, all of whom she says helped her create her sound and overall vibe.

“I’m made from ’90s country, so Sara Evans, Jo Dee Messina, Terri Clark and Reba McEntire all inspired me,” she said.

Beyond that, Kellogg did her best to create her own type of country music, saying, “I think my music stands out.”

“I write songs that are more for the mom and the people that have been through it. When I was going through a divorce, listening to country music was hard for me because there’s a lot of love songs and cheater songs out there instead of, like, ‘Okay, I’m going through a divorce, this is really hard and this is what it looks like.’ Or ‘I’m a mom and I’m tired and I just want to go to bed and this is what that looks like,’” she continued. “So I try to write songs to help people feel less alone in what they’re going through. And it definitely is very different, but fits in within the genre.”

Where and when to watch ‘The Road’

The Road premieres on CBS on Sunday, October 19 at 9 p.m. EST, and will be available to stream on Paramount+ the next day.
