Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you I am the biggest Taylor Sheridan fan. Between Landman, 1923 and more, I truly cannot get enough of his Western dramas. The same can be said for reality TV—more specifically, competition shows—so when I heard that Sheridan was going to be creating one entitled The Road, I knew I was going to have to tune in. And it seems to have been no surprise to the universe as well, because I was recently invited to an exclusive tour of The Road bus, as well as a small, intimate conversation with some of the show’s contestants. Trust me when I say, it made my heart “Yee-haw!” Below, I break down exactly what happened on the bus and share details on when other people across the country can also experience this once-in-a-lifetime event.

‘Woman’s World’ goes on ‘The Road’ again

On Monday, September 8, I was invited to ride on the official Road tour bus along with other New York City-based journalists. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Would they be driving us around town, showing us the sights? Would we just be sitting in a parking lot chatting? Would any of the show’s stars be there? I was curious about it all.

Once I arrived, all of my expectations were blown out of the water. Not only was there a giant bus decked out in Road gear parked on the streets of New York City, but inside there were two of the show’s contestants—Billie Jo Jones and Cassidy Daniels—ready to sit and sing to us.

Before they did, though, we were invited to grab some snacks—I, of course, got my signature Diet Coke—and watch the trailer, which neither Jones nor Daniels had seen before, making the moment that much sweeter, especially after Jones told me that she was super excited for her kids and grandparents—who raised her—to see her on the small screen.

Then, it came time for Jones and Daniels to sing to us as the official Road tour bus began to drive around the streets of New York City. Both performers were mesmerizing and had me begging the singers to release them on Spotify so I could listen to them all the time. Yes, they were that good.

Perhaps my favorite part of the ride, though, was when we all got to sit and chat with Jones and Daniels, both about the show and their lives. They each came from vastly different backgrounds and had vastly different musical inspirations, but at the end of the day, they found common ground in country music. They also had wonderful things to say about Sheridan, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson, which made my little midwestern heart happy.

If you were hoping to get on The Road again, then I have some good news for you. CBS’s The Road Ultimate Bus Tour will be driving across the country over the next six weeks. Currently, they plan on heading to over “20+ cultural hotspots and country music hubs nationwide at pop-ups, tailgates and live events,” according to the press release, but not all of the cities have been announced.

“We’re hoping to give new fans an immersive experience where audiences can get a glimpse of what life on the road/life as a touring musician is really like,” says CBS in a statement.

The Road premieres Sunday, Oct. 19 (9:00–10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and will be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+*
