George Strait Surprises Fan at Texas Dairy Queen and Snaps a Photo—’So Humble and Friendly’
The 'King of Country' was all smiles—and his order might surprise you!
It was a royal treat at the Dairy Queen drive-thru in Cotulla, Texas, when none other than George Strait, the “King of Country,” stopped by for lunch—and took a sweet selfie with a lucky employee. Keep reading to see the photo and find out exactly what he ordered!
George Strait takes a photo with Texas DQ staffer
“The King George Strait stopped at DQ today,” Becky Gonzalez captioned a TikTok post sharing a photo of herself with the Country Music Hall of Famer as he leaned toward the open window of his car to smile for the camera.
She told local San Antonio publication MySA she met the singer during her shift at the restaurant on Saturday, April 12, when he came by for lunch around 12:40 p.m.
Details of the lucky fan’s chance encounter
Gonzalez shared in the comment section of her post that Strait has visited her DQ store in Cotulla, Texas, a few times, but this was the first time she was able to meet him. In fact, she said, she’s never even seen him in concert!
It was her coworker who was at the drive-thru and recognized Strait, she wrote, adding that she “wanted to ask him to sing a little piece of a song, but I didn’t.”
Still, she had nothing but positive reactions to her moment with the Amarillo By Morning singer, calling him “so humble and friendly,” and noting that she agreed immediately to take a moment for the photo.
What George Strait ordered from the DQ menu
The most important question: What does George Strait order at DQ? Saturday’s pick was a Hungr-Buster Combo, Gonzalez revealed. The centerpiece of this menu option is a hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and mustard. And no, he did not add on any ice cream (not even a signature DQ Blizzard).
Of course, the social media post garnered plenty of reactions from Strait’s fans and fellow Texans, many of whom shared their own stories of spotting the country icon out in public and echoed Gonzalez’s sentiments about Strait being a kind gentleman.
Why George Strait has a reputation for being so kind
It makes sense that so many of Strait’s admirers have had positive experiences meeting him in person, as the Grammy Award winner has been known to praise his fans for their enthusiasm.
“I’ve always said I’ve got the best fans in the world and Saturday night at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, says it all,” Strait captioned a video of one of his concerts shared to Instagram in June 2024.
Strait also shared a fan appreciation video to his YouTube channel, where he discussed his love for being able to perform live in front of so many loyal listeners who connect to his music.
“It’s a heck of a feeling,” he said. “I mean, it’s a huge rush and it’s just something that you feed off of. And the more excited people get, the more inspired you get so you’re up there just feeding off of that. I can’t imagine not ever being able to experience that feeling again. Once you’ve had it, you know, you just crave it over and over again, so that’s why we keep going out there.”
That’s why even at 72 years old, Strait is gearing up to hit the road again for some upcoming live shows beginning in May 2025. He’ll make his way to Pennsylvania, New York and California.
