Ryan Murphy is back to do what he does best: blend prestige drama, 1980s nostalgia and dark suspense. Dropping tomorrow, August 5, on FX and Hulu, The Shards brings Bret Easton Ellis’s unsettling novel to life, dropping viewers straight into the glitzy, high-stakes world of wealthy LA prep-schoolers targeted by a serial killer. While the drama on screen is electric, the off-screen buzz is centered on newcomer Homer Gere. Playing enigmatic transfer student Robert, the 26-year-old actor naturally commands the camera—a trait he undoubtedly inherited from parents Richard Gere and Bond Girl-turned-Law & Order star Carey Lowell. As Homer delivers a standout performance in Murphy’s latest thriller, here’s everything you need to know about Hollywood’s newest rising star.

Homer Gere made a splash in ‘Euphoria’

Earlier this year, Homer Gere made his dramatic debut in HBO’s Euphoria as Dylan Reid, an aspiring young star who becomes involved with Sydney Sweeney’s character of Cassie Howard. His first major television role, it quickly became clear that Homer was destined for a life on the screen thanks to the talent that runs in his blood, and the actor already got his dad’s stamp of approval.

“I’m proud of him on two levels,” Gere recently told People. “One, he’s really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he’s doing. But he’s also handling it really well. He’s a good kid. He’s a really good young man who kind of gets it, and this is not an easy job. Not everyone can function within it. So I think he can stay.”

Despite his recent Euphoria stint and upcoming role on The Shards, however, Richard emphasized that his son can go in whatever direction he pleases—even if acting doesn’t quite stick for him. “I don’t think he’s got to make a life choice to commit to this if he’s doing this now. He’s good at it and he’s having fun, but he can become a rock climber if he wants to do that.”

Homer Gere steps into the spotlight with ‘The Shards’

In Ryan Murphy’s The Shards, Homer Gere stars as Robert, a student whose arrival coincides with the rise of a serial killer targeting local teens. While Homer certainly brings his all to this particular performance, he’s acting alongside another famous face with a long Hollywood legacy: Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford. The ironic part? Homer’s dad, Richard Gere, used to be married to Kaia’s mother in the 90s!

In conversation with Extra, Gerber discussed the way she and Homer addressed this somewhat awkward elephant in the room—but once it was out of the way, their friendship only blossomed. “Our first time meeting was with the whole cast, and he walked in and I think we both immediately, like, simultaneously go, ‘Should we address it?’ And then, like, really didn’t talk about it since,” she shared. “We realized very quickly that we have so many other things in common that that kind of got pushed a little bit to the side. It was eclipsed by all these other things we shared, and we now have spent so much time together that, yeah, we love Homer. He cracks me up and he’s so sensitive and empathetic and charismatic and a handsome devil.”
