Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Are Honest About Marriage and This Adorable Duo Are Hollywood Couple Goals!
Married since 2013, Kristen and Dax are there for one another through thick and thin!
Very few celebrity couples have invited us into their marriage quite like Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell have, and one of the most refreshing aspects of their union is the candor in which they speak of their relationship. While not every day of marriage is sunshine and rainbows, neither Bell nor Shepard have ever shied away from being honest about the work that goes into their marriage.
On social media recently, Bell got candid about her husband’s sobriety journey as he celebrated 21 years being substance free. “This is what 21 years of sobriety looks like,” she wrote in the caption of her photo on Instagram. “Lots of hugging. Hugging everyone and everything. Hugging life. Thank you for getting sober, @daxshepard. I am eternally grateful to have you. We all are.”
The couple first got together back in 2007, tied the knot in 2013 and have welcomed two children over the course of their time together. Here, a look back at their relationship and some of our favorite things they’ve said about one another.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard early relationship
When Kristen and Dax first met in the early 2000s, there wasn’t so much of an immediate spark, and even after they had officially started seeing each other, there was some hesitation about taking things further. At first, Dax was still seeing other people, and the actor has been open about the things he considered before diving into the deep end with Kristen.

“I’ve always felt very confident in relationships,” Dax told The Off Camera Show. “So I never ever was like, ‘Oh, I hope I can keep Kristen.’ I was going, ‘Do I want to be with a Christian who has eight people living in her house for free, who has to get out of a car when there’s a dog that doesn’t have a leash and ruin her whole day to rescue this dog? It’s great that she’s good, but that’s not what I wanna do—I’m not that good.” While Dax’s cynicism had him second guessing his future with Kristen, he went on to share that the repercussions of the good his eventual wife put out into the world were “undeniable.”
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard on parenthood
In 2013, Bell and Shepard welcomed their first daughter Lincoln, and a year later, second daughter Delta was born. While the doting dad and mom have certainly been open over the years about the struggles of parenthood and the not-so-glamorous days of raising kids, both have done their best to keep their two girls out of the public eye.
“My feeling is that I chose a career in the public eye. I chose to be quoted, I chose to have my picture taken. I don’t know them yet. I don’t know if they will want that. So I really don’t have the right to choose for them,” Bell told Romper.
Kristen knows that juggling the needs of two kids means that sometimes, it can be hard to prioritize your partner, however, she’s often dishing out advice on how she and Dax keep the spark alive in the midst of parenthood. “We make an effort to cuddle and remain physical with each other,” she told UsWeekly back in 2018. “You find you’re often cuddling with your girls, but then you realize you haven’t touched your partner on the back of the neck or put your arm around him in a week. It’s just paying attention to things like that that I think will keep you connected.”

Kristen and Dax overcome obstacles together
Another aspect of their personal lives that this beloved couple has gotten candid about is Dax’s sobriety. In the past, Shepard opened up about his struggles with addiction and substance abuse, and in 2020, on an episode of his podcast, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, he revealed that he had relapsed after 16 years of sobriety in the wake of a motorcycle accident. In spite of this, his wife showed her unrelenting support.
“The thing I love most about Dax is…that he was able to tell me and tell us and say, ‘We need a different plan.’ We have a plan: if he has to take medication for any reason, I have to administer it. But he was like, ‘We need a stronger plan,’” she shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Regardless of what life throws their way, this adorable couple has proven that together, they can weather any storm.
