They say not to mix work and romance, but for Hallmark Channel stars Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace, they’ve proven that when the love is true, there’s no use denying it. The happy couple started working together on Hallmark’s hit series When Calls the Heart during its sixth season in 2019, where McGarry played the role of Nathan Grant and Wallace played the role of Fiona Miller. In 2020, the Canadian duo made things Instagram official, and since then, the world has been rooting on this sweet couple through all that life has brought them—from wedding bells to babies! Kevin McGarry’s inspiring path to TV stardom
The Hallmark actor we know as Nathan Grant in When Calls the Heart became interested in acting in a rather unique way—as a freshman in high school, he mistakenly entered the wrong classroom and found himself in a theater class. He went on to graduate from George Brown College with a degree in Creative Writing, enrolled in Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, to study theater arts and studied at the Pro Actors Lab, but before pursuing acting professionally, he did some modeling work…in the form of catalogs and Harlequin book covers!
“I did model when I first came to Toronto. I was not good at it,” McGarry said on the Grass is Greener podcast. “But the only thing I really got down was on the catwalk walk or the runway walk…putting your shoulders back to slide off the jacket and then doing the over-the-shoulder motion in one move,” he joked, while also recalling a gig he had in a Sears catalog. “I’m from a small town, and back then we had the Sears Wishbook. And they were like, ‘McGarry’s in the Wishbook, page 170,’ or whatever it was.”

Kayla Wallace’s Hollywood journey—From Hallmark to ‘Landman’
Kayla Wallace, who studied at The Canadian College of Performing Arts, knew that a career on the stage was what her future would hold. She broke out into the Hallmark scene as Fiona Miller in When Calls the Heart in 2019, but has appeared in numerous television shows and films outside of the network. Her TV work includes parts in Ice, The Good Doctor, The Magicians and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. She has also starred in the movies Heatwave (2022), Undercover Cheerleader (2019), Terrified at 17 (2019), Counterfeiting in Suburbia (2018), Killer Ending (2018) and Once Upon a Prince (2018). On Hallmark, you can catch her in two films: My Grown-Up Christmas List (2022) and Feeling Butterflies (2022), both of which she starred alongside none other than her real-life beau, Kevin McGarry.
While her work on Hallmark is how many got to know the actress, her role in Taylor Sheridan’s hit Texas oil drama, Landman, has brought her into the mainstream—and it’s a gig she’s loving. Wallace portrays Rebecca Falcone, a tough-as-nails lawyer who isn’t afraid to put up a fight, and it’s a far cry from the sweet romances she brought to life on Hallmark.
“I love how strong he writes all of his women, and how beautifully loud they are in who they are,” Kayla told Variety about Taylor Sheridan. “He writes these women who are unapologetically themselves. We’ve got such a range on our show, too. Such different types of women, and they’re all so strong in their own way, but so different from one another. I’m honored I get to play a character that Taylor has written, because all of his female parts are written with so much strength.”

The year was 2019 when Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace first joined forces on When Calls the Heart, but it wasn’t until 2020 that they went public with their romance on social media. Since then, the couple hasn’t shied away from sharing their love with fans across their social media accounts. In December of 2022, Kayla took to Instagram to reveal the news of their engagement, the video depicting the couple in a loving embrace as the camera pans up from Wallace’s stunning ring. Though the duo were rather private about their nuptials, McGarry revealed at a Hearties Family Reunion fan event in 2024 that the couple had said “I do.”

Last month, Kayla and Kevin shared some exciting news with the world, and fans couldn’t be more excited for them! In a post shared to Instagram, the duo is standing in front of a Christmas tree with Kevin cradling Kayla’s baby bump. “We can’t wait to meet you, baby. Premiering 2026,” read the caption. Before long, the comments were flooded with support and excitement—with many familiar Hallmark and Landman faces sharing the love! “Eeeeek!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU ALL!! Kids are the best! You’re going to be such wonderful parents and your heart is about to double in size and capacity,” wrote Hallmark actress Jen Lilley. “Heart is overflowing with happiness for you. Can’t wait to meet your angel,” wrote Landman star Ali Larter.
As exciting as this news was, it’s something she hid from her Landman costars up until it was time for the show’s premiere. “I’ve been back home in Canada since we wrapped, so I’ve been in hiding essentially,” she told People at the premiere of Season 2. “So my reveal was I put on a tight dress last night and walked into the lobby at the hotel, and people were like, ‘What?!’ They’ve been so supportive. It’s been wonderful.”
