There’s something undeniably captivating about watching someone unzip their everyday bag and reveal what’s inside. The lip balm they swear by. The crumpled receipt they forgot about. The photo tucked into a side pocket that says more about them than any interview ever could.

That’s the magic we’re bottling up in its exciting new vertical video series, What’s In My Bagand it’s already proving that a handbag can tell you everything you need to know about a person.

After all, What’s In My Bag is not a bag show. It is an identity show. The bag is just the most honest thing someone carries with them every day—and we cannot stop watching someone open theirs.

Meet your host: Kate Hannan

Leading the charge is Kate Hannan, the NYC-based content creator known to her followers as @KateConnects. With a knack for on-the-street interviews and trend-spotting around Manhattan, Kate has built a reputation for capturing authentic, unscripted moments that feel less like an interview and more like running into a friend on the sidewalk.

Her secret? She doesn’t perform. She connects. Whether she’s chatting with a celebrity on their way to a game or a stranger sipping coffee in Central Park, Kate brings the kind of warm, curious energy that makes people want to open up—literally and figuratively.

The format that has everyone talking

Each episode runs about 60 to 90 seconds—perfectly tailored for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and vertical video players. The format is delightfully simple: a guest pulls out their bag, walks viewers through the essentials and shares the stories behind each item.

Episodes follow a loose but irresistible structure: the bag itself (and what made them choose it that day), the everyday essentials, the personal items that speak to beauty, wellness or self-care, and—the moment everyone waits for—the unexpected item. That one thing that makes you say, “Wait, tell me more.”

It’s equal parts lifestyle, personality and product discovery, and it gives viewers a peek into the real lives of the people behind the headlines.

The pilot episode: Alex Rodriguez gets sentimental

For the inaugural episode, Kate caught up with baseball legend Alex Rodriguez—a.k.a. A-Rod—as he made his way through Central Park to broadcast a Yankees vs. Red Sox game. What followed was a charming, surprisingly tender look inside the 50-year-old former Yankee’s everyday carry.

The bag of choice? A Dagne Dover, which A-Rod proudly showed off. But it was what came out of it that stole the show.

“I always travel with a picture of my girls,” A-Rod told Kate, holding up a treasured photo. “And yeah, that was my last game I played at Yankee Stadium.”

The dad of two — Natasha, 21, and Ella, 18 — also revealed a notebook he carries everywhere. “I always bring a notebook everywhere, because, like, every three years I come up with a decent idea, and I want to make sure that I write it down,” he said. “Then I have my WNBA little notebook, and I just write notes all the time.”

Does he journal? “Not really. I know that would sound cool, but I don’t journal.”

When the conversation turned to books, A-Rod admitted he’s “kind of a strange reader.”

“I always like The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I love Pat Riley, The Winner Within,” he said. “I have a bunch of books that I like, but I just kind of dabble, chapter here, chapter there.”

To read—and to broadcast—A-Rod relies on his Look Optic glasses, which he helped design with his daughters. The AR 13 progressives let him keep score during games and read his notes without missing a pitch.

“I wear these because, okay, for tonight, for example, one of the things you have to do is you have to keep score, so that means that every pitch you’re basically documenting,” he explained. “These are progressives, that means I can actually watch the game, and then I can look down and can help me read, so it’s really cool.”

He also shared that the brand’s affordability is meaningful to him. “I grew up very modest, kind of lower middle class, and it’s very important that you have a good quality glasses that is affordable.” Look Optic is currently running a Father’s Day sale, making it the perfect time to grab a pair.

The ultimate Father’s Day plan

When Kate asked what his dream Father’s Day looks like, A-Rod didn’t hesitate.

“I would say the ultimate Father’s Day is to wake up. My girls like to do a workout class, like a SoulCycle, or maybe like a Tracy Anderson. They love that,” he said. “We love Tracy. And then it’s like some type of brunch or something.”

His brunch order? Egg whites, bacon, avocado and oatmeal—though he admitted his cheat meal is “pizza, wings, and ice cream.” His coffee? Black, no exceptions. “Nothing on it. Simple.”

Why this series matters

The brilliance of What’s In My Bag lies in its simplicity. It taps into something deeply human—our curiosity about other people’s lives and the small, intimate objects that define them. A photograph. A lucky mint. A well-worn notebook. These aren’t just things. They’re stories.

The series will feature three tiers of guests: celebrities and public figures whose bags reveal the human behind the headlines, mid-size creators and tastemakers whose recommendations carry real weight, and—perhaps most importantly—everyday women (and men) whose bags reveal the kind of sentimental, relatable truths that make a clip go viral.

Viewers are invited to participate, too. The series is launching with a recurring “Show Us Yours” community prompt, encouraging fans to share their own bag reveals on TikTok and Instagram. The most charming submissions will be featured in weekly community episodes.
