If you’ve ever dreamt of getting decked out in over-the-top hats, dresses, gloves and sipping on a mint julep at the Kentucky Derby, Hallmark is making it just a little easier to find that same fun right in the comfort of your living room. Each year, thousands of visitors gather at Kentucky’s Churchill Downs to watch the famed horse race, sporting lavish looks and rubbing elbows with some of the biggest celebs in Hollywood, but this year, you don’t have to spend hundreds on a ticket when none other than Hallmark hunk Andrew Walker is bringing a little bit of Derby magic to the screen. Here, read all about Hallmark’s partnership with Churchill Downs Racetrack for the upcoming film Kentucky Roses.
All about Hallmark’s ‘Kentucky Roses’
On May 2, the Kentucky Derby will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, for the 152nd time, but this year, the iconic sporting event is getting the Hallmark treatment. Kentucky Roses will star Andrew Walker, known for films like Three Wise Men and a Baby (2022), Jingle Bell Run (2024), She’s Making a List (2025) and more, starring opposite Odette Annable, known for her work in series like Supergirl and Walker. In the film, Annable plays a woman named Sadie, who works at Churchill Downs in the greenhouse. Sadie’s great-grandmother, Gloria, helped bring the Derby’s garland of roses to life decades ago, and it’s her dream to become a florist and one day do the same. Meanwhile, Ash (Walker) is the son of Churchill Downs’ CEO. When the Twin Spires are damaged in a storm, Ash must fix them up. When his and Sadie’s paths cross, they come to discover that they have quite a bit in common. Kentucky Roses also takes place across two timelines—present day and back in 1932. As the story unfolds, we learn that Sadie and Ash’s families share a connection.

“Hallmark Media and Churchill Downs are both legacy brands, each with more than a hundred years of history. Additionally, we share a commitment to giving generations of fans a memorable experience that fosters deep connections,” shared Jessica Callahan, Vice President at Hallmark Media, in a press release. “Together, we’re thrilled to bring audiences an inspiring story of community, courage, and time-honored traditions.“
When does ‘Kentucky Roses’ premiere on Hallmark?
The upcoming movie was actually filmed on site at Churchill Downs and wrapped up last year. That being said, fans can expect to see this film premiere on May 2, 2026—the day of this year’s Kentucky Derby! The film will stream the following day on Hallmark+. Instead of having FOMO, wishing you could be there, you can get a taste of this event right from the comfort of your own home. And that’s not all! Hallmark Gold Crown stores will also be selling a jewelry collection that takes inspiration from the film!
Whether you’re watching from your couch in your comfiest pajamas or hosting a Derby Day party with friends, Kentucky Roses promises to deliver all the romance, tradition and heartwarming moments that make Hallmark movies so special.
