Giavani Cairo of ‘The Chosen’ Opens up About Season 6, Filming in Italy and His Romantic Proposal (EXCLUSIVE)
As 'The Chosen' enters its sixth season, Giavani Cairo shares about his faith-based partnership with Glorify and his sweet engagement
When The Chosen first began in 2018, the cast and creators had no idea what it would become. For Giavani Cairo, he’s shocked, humbled and grateful for the show’s unexpected success that has changed his life completely — and strengthened his faith each time he walks on set.
Now, in a partnership with Glorify, he’s sharing what his character, Thaddeus, has taught him most: quiet faith. Here, Giavani opens up to Woman’s World about his faith-based partnership with Glorify, insights into Season 6 and his whirlwind engagement in Italy.
What Giavani Cairo has learned from Thaddeus
Giavani Cairo says his portrayal of Thaddeus has been a deeply personal and spiritual journey. “After doing a lot of research, I found out Thaddeus is also known as St. Jude — the Saint of hopeless causes in desperate situations,” he shares. “That was really cool in research to figure that out.” But the experience has gone far beyond historical understanding. “Something he’s really taught me is a lot of patience,” Cairo says, adding that the biggest lesson has been “surrender.”
“Through playing Thaddeus, I’ve learned things become a lot easier when you give in to God, and just realize there’s so many things that are not in our control,” he shares candidly with Woman’s World.
A deeper faith with Glorify
That message of faith and surrender has ultimately deepened through his partnership with Glorify, the faith-based app that helped him explore Thaddeus’ “quiet humility and faith.”
“We’re a greater gift to humanity when we’re allowed to surrender ourselves to God. We’re not meant to be in control. We can only do so much,” Cairo reflects. He hopes that through the devotional series with Glorify, people are reminded that “quiet faith” — the kind Thaddeus lived out — is powerful, relatable, and just as meaningful as bold declarations of belief — seen in other characters like Peter and Andrew.
“Jesus said himself, when you pray to your Father, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who’s in silence, and your Father, who is in silence, will reward you” Cairo says, “I feel like this devotional with Glorify really touches on how there’s so many people that maybe aren’t as outwardly confident or vocal, but they still have that faith and a yearning to grow closer to Him. Just by recording it myself, I found myself getting closer to God.”
Fans can download the Glorify app to hear Giavani narrate “Believing When All Seems Lost,” the 7-day devotional series inspired by his character of Thaddeus in The Chosen.

A peek into Season 6 of ‘The Chosen’
Filming The Chosen Season 6 in Italy has been an unforgettable experience for Giavani due to the magnitude of the emotional scenes. “The crucifixion was in Italy,” he says, “so it was without giving too much away — I think a highlight was just seeing what this has become since Season 1.”
For Cairo, the experience was deeply personal and helped strengthen the bond he’s built with his castmates over the years. “I don’t just see that as Jesus up there, I see that as Jonathan [Roumie] up there. I don’t just see an actor who’s playing Jesus. I see someone who I call a friend and a brother.”
Reflecting on the journey since 2018, Giavani adds, “When we first started this back in 2018, we didn’t know what this was going to become…it’s like the ending of an era, but at the same time, the beginning of something truly special that I think people are going to really connect to.”

Giavani Cairo’s Italian engagement
While filming The Chosen in Italy, Giavani Cairo experienced a moment just as moving off-screen as anything in the series — he got engaged to his longtime love, Bella Michaels.
“I’m very blessed for her. We put Christ at the center of our relationship, and we’re so good at communicating, Cairo says with a smile. “I think we see each other’s point of views all the time, and we have great family connection as well. I’m very blessed for it.”

“She’s a gift from God. A prayer I pray for us is that we would just continue to keep God at the center of our relationship and all the decision-making that we do. It’s important for any relationship to remember that it’s a ‘we,’ instead of an ‘I.’ That’s what we tend to use a lot in any circumstance that kind of comes up. We’re always saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to get through this together,’ ‘We can do this,’ or ‘We’re a team.’ That’s the most important thing. I’m just blessed for that girl!”
The engagement marks a joyful new chapter for the couple, who have supported each other through the whirlwind of Cairo’s rising career and the emotional journey of bringing The Chosen to life.
