Grace Van Patten Shares Rare Update on Relationship: ‘We Are The Exact Opposite’—Plus, a First-Look at ‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 3!
Plus, details on the cast’s flourishing friendship!
Betrayals, toxicity and lies are, apparently, the recipe for a seriously addicting TV show. At least that’s the case for Tell Me Lies, the hit Hulu series based on the 2018 bestselling book of the same name by Carola Lovering. Since the show’s release, the online response has remained enthusiastic with millions of likes, posts and fan-made videos.
The central plot follows college student Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and her turbulent relationship with fellow student Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White)—and in a plot twist that no one saw coming at first, the two stars struck up a romance in real-life. In fact, the couple officially went public with their relationship in 2022. Fans were thrilled and fascinated by this information because Van Patten and White are quite the opposite of their on-screen personas. If you’re looking to get the latest scoop on their relationship or looking for updates on the highly anticipated Season 3 or both, you’re in the right place!
Here, we gathered up the latest details on the new season from release date to airing schedule, plot and more—plus, a new glimpse into Van Patten and White’s relationship according to Van Patten herself!
Romance onscreen versus off
Van Patten met White during a Zoom audition for the show and went public with their relationship in October 2022. In a recent interview with E! News, Van Patten opened up about how they navigate playing such a toxic pair onscreen. When asked how they prepare for the roles? Van Patten quipped, “There’s no switching. That’s exactly who we are. What you see is us.” Joking aside, Van Patten went on to say how they are nothing like their onscreen characters. “We are probably the exact opposite, thankfully,” she continued, “which makes it only fun to act those scenes. It is so far from ourselves and our relationship that it’s just fun to be mean and crazy. Just as an actor, it’s fun to go there, and it makes it even more exciting and safe to do it with someone you really trust. So, it’s really great.”

Van Patten and White’s characters aren’t the only toxic characters in Tell Me Lies—actually far from it. But she added that their reckoning may finally arrive. “They’ve all gotten away with a lot, and it’s all kind of crumbling down on them this time around, which means a lot more emotion,” she explained. “It feels like every character is really going through their own thing, and the audience will have a chance to go through it with them individually. People will feel connected to a lot more characters this season.”
Inside the ‘Tell Me Lies’ cast friendships

White and Van Patten aren’t the only real relationships that flourished during filming. Van Patten told E! News about how cast friendships really blossomed and became “a family” during filming season 3, which was filmed in Toronto this time around instead of Atlanta.
“They’re all my best friends at this point,” she said. “We’ve gone through so much together and essentially grown up together on this job. It’s been so beautiful to get to know them better each year.”
‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 3: Release date, plot and newly revealed photos
Season 2 of Tell Me Lies left viewers appalled and shocked, but showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer detailed what fans can expect in the upcoming season at CBS Fest in L.A. in May of this year. “It is as dark, toxic, and funny as ever,” she said. “And just when you thought our characters couldn’t do anything more ridiculous to themselves, they ended up doing it.”
According to the show’s official logline, Season 3 “follows Lucy Albright (Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (White) as they’ve rekindled their tumultuous romance in time for spring semester at Baird College. While they promise things will be different this time, past indiscretions hinder their best intentions, and Lucy finds herself embroiled in a controversy she wants nothing to do with.

Meanwhile, the disastrous repercussions from the previous year also force Lucy and Stephen’s friends to face their own destructive behaviors. As scandalous secrets fester around campus, vicious consequences threaten Lucy and everyone in her circle.”
Season 3 will premiere with its first two episodes on January 13, 2026. The third season will feature eight episodes and the finale airs on February 24, 2026.
