Meet Ella Bright, the actress who plays Hannah in ‘Off Campus’

Brooke Shields may be acting royalty to many of us, but Ella Bright played an actual royal before she stepped into the role of “Wellsy” in Off Campus. Eagle-eye fans may recognize her from being cast as a young Kate Middleton in The Crown. Ella caught the acting bug early, making her prestigious West End debut in 2017 as Lily Potter Jr. in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre. But what else do we know about this talented actress? Keep reading to find out…

Everything you need to know about Ella Bright

Many fans are surprised to learn that Ella is a British-American actress who grew up in London. She is an Emmy and BAFTA-nominated actress for her work in the BBC television series Malory Towers. She skillfully disguised her British accent in the show Off Campus, set in New England, where she’s the love interest of hockey superstar Garrett Graham, played by Belmont Cameli. But she was used to hearing Americans talk since her father hails from Oklahoma and her mother is from California. We also know that Ella has two sisters.

Here’s a fun behind-the-scenes secret from Off Campus: While Ella plays a music major at Briar University who writes and performs her own songs, the actress had zero singing experience before landing the role! In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Ella confessed, “I’d never even stepped foot into a music studio before, so it was very nerve-wracking.“ She added, “Singing was a big insecurity of mine, so this was definitely like a big jump to do that. But yeah, seeing myself on Spotify was really crazy.” And overnight, Ella has us all singing the old glam-rock hit “Cherry Pie!”

When will season 2 of ‘Off Campus’ be released?

Now that season 1 is a hit, fans can’t wait to get more of Hannah, Graham and the rest of the Briar University crew. Good news: The show has been renewed for another season, though an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. What we do know: In an interview with Variety, Louisa Levy, who created the show based on an Elle Kennedy romance book series, shared, “All eight scripts [for Season 2] are written and we have a very exciting plan for the season.” The episodes are expected to be shot in the fall and released in 2027.

The season will focus on the love story of free spirit Allie Hayes (Hannah’s roommate), played by Mika Abdalla from The Pitt and Dean Di Laurentis (Graham’s hockey teammate), played by Stephen Kalyn. If you loved the first season, wait until you see the sparks fly between these two!

Stay tuned for all the swoony fun. In the meantime, read one of the books to get ready for more of that irresistible chemistry that made the first season such a hit.
