Why food recalls are on the rise
It seems as though every week, there is a new recall, and while it may seem overwhelming and scary, most of the time, it’s not as bad as you think. A lot of the time, the recalls are only for specific batches of the products in certain states.
There have been some bigger ones, like when 80,000 pounds of Costco butter was recalled for not labeling that it contained milk—just like Lay’s. But even then, if you bought the product and don’t have a known reaction to milk, you are most likely going to be okay. The recalls are just in place as a precaution to warn people who may be affected by the mixup.
Staying safe during food recalls
To stay safe against food recalls:
- Check labels regularly: Always read labels, especially if you have allergies or intolerances.
- Stay updated: Follow FDA recall announcements to remain informed.
- Examine products closely: Look for anything unusual in packaging or appearance.
