If you’re like us, there’s nothing you love more than a nice, relaxing self care day, whether that entails doing a little retail therapy, baking your favorite dessert, treating yourself to a nice meal or our personal favorite, pampering yourself with a spa day. However, going to the spa can get expensive — not to mention become timely. If you’re looking to save some time and money, we’ve got you covered. We tapped spa experts for the best at home spa day ideas to give yourself or the mom in your life a little “me” time.

We all deserve a little extra TLC at times, but taking time to really focus on you is often at the bottom of your list of to-do’s — if it even makes the list! Experts insist that as busy as we are, prioritizing ourselves will lead to an overall happier mood and better mindset, as well as feeling less burnt out.

“Taking time for self-care is important for rejuvenating the mind, body and soul, and incorporating an at-home spa experience promotes positive overall feelings of wellbeing by helping you to look and feel your best,” says Anna Caldwell, Nu Skin Product Marketing Manager.

And while heading to the spa every time you feel stressed, anxious or down is probably not realistic, you can incorporate self care into your routine right at home. Pick a day and time once a week where you prioritize a self care ritual.

Plus, at-home spa days are not only a great way to have some mother-daughter bonding this Mother’s Day, it’s a great gift to give or get! Trying out one of these at-home spa day ideas is the perfect way to treat your loved one without having to leave the house!

Caldwell’s tips to the best at home spa? “Setting the scene for a night of pampering is essential,” says Caldwell. “A relaxing home environment helps to soothe the mind and the body. I always recommend dimming the lights and turning on a Himalayan salt lamp, which helps to cleanse the air as well as improve your mood.

Choose a room that has warmer lighting if possible, and dim lights if you can. Next, light some candles! Go for scents that are calming and relaxing, such as lavender or chamomille, which “have been shown to reduce anxiety and help the body unwind,” says Caldwell. Put on your favorite robe, slip on some cozy slippers, take any makeup off and pull hair up and out of face.

At home spa ideas for you or mom

If you want to keep it simple and just give your toes a refresh, fill a bowl with warm water and add in some bath salts. Slide your feet in and let them soak for 10-15 minutes, do a sugar scrub/exfoliation if needed and then paint on your favorite polish! Click through for an in-depth guide on giving yourself the perfect at home pedicure.

At home spa ideas: Take a bath

There’s nothing more relaxing than taking a nice, warm bath after a long day. After filling your tub, do a bath soak by adding in some bath salts. To really up the ante, put on some under eye patches or slather on a face mask. This is also the perfect time to give your hair some extra attention with a hair mask. Or, if you want to elevate your at-home spa day, give your face a deep cleanse with a facial cleansing brush.

“My recommendation is to introduce elevated options to your tried-and-true experiences,” suggests Caldwell. “For example, washing your face is a given, but with the Nu Skin ageLOC LumiSpa iO, you not only get an incredible, spa-like deep cleansing, but also skin-perfecting treatments for a smoother, softer appearance. Personally, I find it so much more rejuvenating than a face mask!” Makes a great gift to yourself or to a deserving mom in your life!
